Spryte
If you have them, and lots of books … did the shelves sag? If so, any solutions?
Farrar
No! And I'm hard on them. The backs do buckle though. I've tried everything to keep them on and it's really annoying but I haven't managed it. 1
City Mouse
I’ve had mine 10 years and no sag 2
hjffkj
our old ones never did. Like @Farrar the backs can be an issue. we did eventually find a way to keep the backs on buy that was so long ago I don't remember what it was 1
Wheres Toto
Nope, I had a bunch that were over 10 years old and had been moved about 6 times. No problem with buckling. I do agree about the backs not staying on, although at one point we had some sitting in front of windows so removed the back from the top halves on purpose.
Carol in Cal.
Nope. The shelves and sides are sturdy but the backs are not. They pretty shallow though. So think about it carefully before you invest in doors for the fronts. 2
Calm37
30+years here. No sag.
gardenmom5
I have had individual shelves sag if they are overloaded. But really big, and really heavy text book type books.
Carrie12345
Yes, I have some saggy shelves. Yes, they’ve been loaded VERY heavy. (The lighter ones are fine.) FB reminded me today that mine are 8 years old.
kokotg
Mine are holding up great--9 years and counting. Loaded down with books. You can always flip the shelves over if they start to sag in one direction and...reset things?
Melissa Louise
No, they've been fine. Don't overload though. I keep the heavy tomes in a more solid, wooden bookcase.
Corraleno
Nope. I have four that are 7 years old and other four that are 15 years old, and none of the shelves have sagged even a little bit despite being pretty heavily loaded.
Ailaena
Some of my individual shelves started sagging after 8ish years, but I wish you could see the amount of books I have on them. They’re not dangerously sagging, just... a touch soft. The rest of the bookcase still seems very sturdy and I have moved 3 times with them.
edelweiss
We've had ours for 15+ years. No sagging and they have been pretty heavily loaded with books.
Resilient
No. No sagging, and the shelving has been tortured.

I think we have six? No issues with the tall ones. The shorter ones had issues due to DS7 climbing when he was little, but they held up pretty good. I will say my oversized and very heavy books are in my solid book cases.
madteaparty
Well I must be doing something wrong. Almost single shelf in mine came off under the weight of books. I’ll send a picture for proof once I’m back in the states (because I’m just now battling time zone insomnia with searching for real bookcases and mine still look like that). many recs for pretty, hardwood bookcases, anyone? eTA maybe it’s not Billy I have? I’m pretty sure it is though. Black ikea bookcase. Feeling weird after reading all this posts...clearly it’s me. No it’s not heavy books. Zinnia2
We had them as open shelving in a kitchen. When we moved after 9 years, we opted not to bring them with us because some of the shelves were saggy. I had definitely overloaded them, though. I have new ones that are 2 years old. They are again overloaded in some spots (old habits and all). Only one shelf has started to sag.
Condessa
If you don't want to have problems with the backs, bolt the shelves to the wall when installing them. No issues then. The backs are too flimsy to hold up over time, otherwise.

Bambam
We've had some sag. But we have very heavy books on them. We only have a few of them.

Spryte
This is helpful, thanks! We are pondering installing them as faux built ins (lots of diy hacks out there) instead of waiting on lumber prices to come down. So we may or may not use the backs, and they will definitely be bolted in. I tend to be pretty rough on shelves, and overload them, though. Is it possible to buy replacement shelves? I have not checked that yet.

The only thing you'd have to be concerned about it colors change over time and down the road you might not be able to get matching shelves.
Spy Car
I can never quite be sure when threads are really about bookshelves sagging or if they are really about ladies' foundations. Bill

The cases with 40cm and 60cm width are fine, but my 80cm width cases struggled. I had to buy L-hooks to support the shelves. For really heavy stuff I would advice smaller cases..

cintinative
I'm late to the party but none of mine have sagged. I have not checked the backs. They conceptually sit against the wall. As others have mentioned, the bookshelves are not truly square with the wall in my house.
