Aubrey
I was thinking of getting a bumbo for baby for Christmas--there are plenty on CL--but as an afterthought, I checked the age recs. It says for babies 3-14mos, I think. I can't remember the upper age for sure. Anyway, it also says up to 22lbs. Baby is already 20lbs. And I figure 1yo will want to try it out herself some, lol. Since it will be used anyway, I'm not TOO worried about them being a little chunky for it, but I've only used one once at a friend's house. Thoughts? TIA! joannqn
I got one for my youngest and ended up taking it right back to the store. He kept sliding around so that one leg was sticking all the way out and the other leg was mostly in the seat part and falling over in a stuck kind of way. I wasn't all that impressed. KIN
My SIL really used hers. She would put the baby in it with a tray on it and some toys to occupy her sometimes. It was the baby's first highchair, b/c it held her up so well. I was tempted to buy one for myself but.... didn't. :)
Blessedfamily
We loved ours. We got it and the tray from Target and wished we had used it sooner. It really is useful as soon as they can hold their head up well, so you can sit on the floor and play with them. I have seen babies with chubby legs out-grow them, but you have to test to for fit. As for the limit, here is the company's response. There is not a weiget limit, but we only recommended using the Bumbo until your baby can get out of the seat on its own. In practical useage however, we have seen that there is not really a weight limit on the Bumbo, it is more of a size limit. We have seen special needs children comfortably using the Bumbo at 7 years old. Often it is a child's hips that become too wide for the Bumbo. Other times it is the child's thighs that outgrow the Bumbo. The bottom line is that as long as your child is comfortable in the Bumbo, they can use it. mommylaw
I loved the Bumbo. I took it everywhere with us. I used it more than the swing, bouncer and jumpy put together. My babies were tiny. I don't know about the lil chunkers. :)
jubilee
I received one for dd as a gift. When I did try to use it she popped herself out of it. Rolled to one side and it was stuck to her bum. I tried to use it as a snack time seat on the floor, supervised and it didn't last long with us. This is the same girl who was walking before her first birthday. All that to say, I personally wouldn't spend the money on it. Used off CL maybe, but only if it were a steal!

This is exactly what I want to use it for--I think he'd really like to be more in the middle of things w/ the bigger ones, but I can't just put him in the floor on a blanket like I did his sibs, because 1yo likes to love on him a little too much! :001_smile: And somehow, he's a skinny 20lb, if that's possible. He's long & solid instead of soft & marshmallowy like 1yo.
Janna
I have one and have found it to be useful for me when I need to shower. My little guy is no longer satisfied in a swing (which is what I was using before), but for some reason is fine in the Bumbo. He can sit by himself now but in the bumbo he can't get out, so it's been really nice to have. I will say that I got mine from a friend who no longer needed it and doesn't plan on more kids. I don't know how much they cost, so if it's a lot of $$, I would probably think about other options. Btw, are you saying your chunk is the 3 month old? Already 20 lbs!? oh, my!! ;)
Aubrey
Btw, are you saying your chunk is the 3 month old? Already 20 lbs!? oh, my!! ;) Yep. He'll be 4mos on the 10th...whoa, that's tomorrow. Anyway, I weighed him a couple of weeks ago & was stunned. He's wearing 9-12mo size clothes. 19mo old is 28lbs, so I figure pretty soon we won't have to protect baby from toddler, lol--he'll be able to hold his own.
kat19
but we never bought one. My son has reflux and on reflux boards it didn't get good reviews. It presses on their tummy and makes reflux worse(that's what they said). I decided we had enough spit up without the seat :D Wow, my little guy is almost 9 months and 20 pounds, but we have a cousin who is almost 6 pounds and weighs more than 20.. Each baby is so different. I bet he is a cute little cuddle bug :D
