I am so mad, I could spit!...vent

Recommended Posts

Why does it take longer for me to get a prescription when the doctor has it faxed in rather than just giving it to me to take in person?! My dd has been in tears and scratching terribly with a rash on her face, neck and hands. Her eyes are almost swollen shut and she's just miserable. The doctor said it was poison ivy and prescribed prednisone (sp?) that she would fax in so we could just pick it up on the way home. It takes 20 minutes to get from the Dr.'s office to our pharmacy, so you would think they would have at least RECEIVED the fax. NO! There's no sign of it, and the pharmacist can't even get a hold of the doctor or anyone else there because the whole office is closed for lunch! My daughter is in tears and can't stop scratching. Now I either have to have her wait until my dh can pick it up on his way home from work (6:30PM) or lug all four kids back out this afternoon when my 2 yo should be napping to get it. This happens EVERY TIME they say they are going to FAX the prescription! It always takes hours longer.

This is definitely a Calgon day for me. On top of the poison ivy and prescription issue, I've got a toddler who keeps taking off her clothes and a 6 year old who's taken 2 hours so far to unload the dishwasher. My dd with the poison ivy hasn't done any school work (poison ivy on her writing hand is irritated by holding a pencil) and my 9 yo ds has only done math. He's supposed to be practicing the piano right now, but instead of practicing the songs he's supposed to play at his rehearsal Thursday, he's making up his own stuff. :crying:

Sorry! I just needed to vent!

Ugh! I'm so sorry. I hate it when that happens. We have a great set of doctors and a great set of pharmacists, but even then I've learned to always just take the rx in myself. They can't seem to sync up for the whole "call/fax it in" to work.

I hope your day gets better :grouphug:.

It always seems to take a long time for my dr's office to call or fax too. I only have them do it if I don't need it right away. I also don't always know exactly where I want to get the prescription. It does seem to go faster if I bring in the prescription myself and the pharmacy knows I'm waiting for it. Even if you doctor's office does call or fax, the pharmacy won't necessarily fill it right away. Often they'll have the fax/call when you come in, but haven't filled it yet; they'll do it while you wait. So you might as well bring it in yourself.

If it's a liquid, pharmacies won't fill it until you arrive. But that has nothing to do with how long it takes the OFFICE to get the order TO the pharmacy.

DH is goign through some of this cr*p wiht his mom's pharmacy, but it's a little different. The pharmacy insists on faxing a request to the Dr. office. The Dr. office has specifically told DH they do not do Rx via fax. And DH has told the pharmacy that. But the pretty blonde bimbos, er, uh, I mean high school girls that can barely speak english (they do that fast mumbling thing) just can't get it written down correctly. Heck they can't even get her NAME right. Last name is Garm#n...in their system as Garmin, Garmon and Garmen, and they ask for the insurance card when they put you in. They can't even COPY something correctly. THAT mess took me about 30 minutes to straighten out, directly with the pharmacist himself. :glare: It is so bad that he is thinking about changing pharmacies, but he works for this company and gets bonus points for each rx filled on his shopping card.

It used to work well when they actually did fax it to the drugstore. Now, they use something called "efax" and the dr enters it in the computer, in the room with you, and it goes through some central system at the local hospital before getting to the drugstore. At least half an hour. And then the drugstore gets to mess it up.

The last time, the dr entered the same prescription for all three dc, at the same time. When we got to the drugstore, they only had two. So I called the dr and had them send it again (on a cell phone at the counter), then they said it would take half an hour to "fill" the ones they had (ie. slap a sticker on it and hand it over; it comes prepackaged in a box) so I told them we'd be back later. A few hours later, they had filled one, lost the other order, lost another prescription that was ready and waiting the first time, and still didn't have the 3rd order! It took three days and four trips to get them all!

I'm so sorry your little one feels so bad. I can't even imagine how irritating that itch must be.

At my husband's office the computer faxes or phones in the prescription to the pharmacy directly. Due to software errors or something beyond our control, it doesn't work sometimes. Hopefully, you can call when they get back from lunch and have the nurse call it into the pharmacy for you.

While you're waiting on the prednisone, give her some benadryl, and put some hydrocortisone lotion or spray on her rash. My dd had an allergic reaction to something the weekend before Thanksgiving, and the doc had me give her benadryl, clariton and the creme until we could get the prednisone. Oh, and the benadryl spray works much, much better than the creme. HTH and she feels better soon!

Come to find out, they faxed the prescription to the wrong branch of the pharmacy. I don't know how that happened. I've used the same pharmacy and branch the whole 9 years we've been going to that doctor's office, and the doctor even confirmed the pharmacy branch with me when we were there for the appointment.

Oh, well. At least my dd has her prescription now and is starting to feel better. I had to take all four kids with me again, and the toddler got down for her nap an hour later than normal, but at least she's still able to take one. That nap time is precious!

Now I just need to deal with the fact that the doctor didn't prescribe enough pills to cover how long she wants dd to take them, and there's no refill. Ugh! :tongue_smilie:
