Lanny Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 I read this article a few minutes ago. One of my cousins in the S.F. Bay area had the Janssen vaccination. I sent this link to her. Possibly of interest to someone here on WTM. https://www.foxnews.com/health/san-francisco-hospital-supplemental-covid-19-vaccine-jj Quote
Amy Gen Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 I know several people who got J&J vaccine early on because that was all that was available to them at the time. Some are worried about becoming carriers especially because they work with kids under 12, so they are getting additional shots by just not mentioning that they already had J&J and then saying that they don’t have insurance so that the new vaccine isn’t listed on their insurance. No one I know has had an issue yet, but I’m keeping an eye on it. 4 Quote
kristin0713 Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 I really wish they would come out with a solid recommendation about this one way or another. I would gladly get a "supplemental" pfizer shot if it would help. However, my J&J seems to be holding up against a covid infection in my home. I'm planning to get antibody testing in September. Maybe being around a covid positive person worked as a booster for me in a way. 4 Quote
mommyoffive Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 J&J Covid vaccine recipients can get supplemental Pfizer or Moderna dose in San Francisco (cnbc.com) 5 Quote
RootAnn Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 (edited) I would assume all the shots will show up in someone's medical file, but I am bit concerned that if it becomes widespread to not disclose a prior j&j shot, there will start to be issues in tracking %vaccinated. (Those who are already tracked as fully vaccinated might be added to a partially vaxxed file for one shot of a mRNA vaccine if they are trying not to disclose their vax history. Obviously those people/ places who are upfront about this with records are not included in my concern Edited August 4, 2021 by RootAnn 1 Quote

Obviously those people/ places who are upfront about this with records are not included in my concern I have this concern as well. I'm not about to get one dose of Pfizer on my own without disclosing my J&J, because I don't want to be tracked as only partially vaccinated. I do have my original card, but I still think there could be complications from this. Also, I think it would be kind of foolish to do that without any solid studies regarding mixing vaccines. (Unless there is one that I am not aware of.) 1 hour ago, Kassia said: Mine hasn't tried to get another vaccine but he regrets getting J&J now - he really wanted it at the time. This was how I felt when my mom was first diagnosed, but it's been a week now and I'm still good. She had Moderna and the person that infected her had Pfizer. So far my J&J is holding up. I did have a very strong immune response when I got it (severe body aches and chills all night), so maybe that puts me on the effective side of the statistics. 🤷♀️ 2 Quote
RootAnn Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 @kristin0713There are some studies started (not randomized) plus real world (UK? Or Europe somewhere?) on-going. So, it'll probably be another 3-6 months for data. 1 Quote

Please have your son call his primary care doctor and request a Pfizer booster. I have heard of several local people who got the J&J vaccine very early now getting mRNA vaccines as boosters after approval from their PCP. 2 Quote

My ds1 also had a pretty bad reaction to his J&J shot - much worse than the other young adults in my family who received Pfizer (2) and Moderna (3). Quote

He refused, and said he would not do it until there is a firm recommendation from the CDC. 1 2 Quote

Or do they? I really don't know. I do know that people who got shots in a different state had them show up in their home state's vaccine database (that I didn't even know existed!) and were pulled from there into their personal medical records by their physician. If that person doesn't have a medical record, I don't know what happens. Is one created for them? I don't know that either. It is just an assumption that they'll show up. Quote

Or do they? There was a VA email that said we needed to notify our providers if we got the vaccine off base. With previous vacs, when we got them at the health dept, we had to take a copy of the paperwork to the AF base so the info could be added to our official records. So I don't think the different systems share info. 2 Quote
busymama7 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 My daughter had her first pfizer on a Monday and was at the Dr Wednesday for an unrelated reason. Dr pulled up state vax records and it showed the covid vax. I laughed and said that was fast! In our state, the health department keeps a record. As I am scatterbrained and not very organized, it has come in handy many times. Super simple to access the record for any minor child (or yourself) online and print it out. 1 Quote
Fritz Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 https://www.wsj.com/articles/j-j-vaccine-highly-effective-against-delta-variant-in-south-african-trial-11628292645 The South African study, known as Sisonke, found that the J&J vaccine has an efficacy of up to 71% against hospitalization from the Delta variant, 67% against hospitalization from the Beta variant and up to 96% against death, according to a presentation of the results Friday. The data hasn’t yet been peer reviewed or published in a scientific journal. “The vaccine works very well in South Africa and protects against severe disease and death. All the immune responses that we’ve seen indicate good, immediate and sustained immune response against Delta and we see surprising durability in immune response of up to eight months,” said Dr. Glenda Gray, one of the study’s lead researchers. 1 Quote

I was vaccinated through my employer at a clinic. I went to my PCP a couple of months later who asked "have you been vaccinated"? When I said yes, I started to pull out my vax card to get the date, the nurse said, Oh, I will just put March 1--that's close enough. So, my medical file includes information based upon my verbal acknwoledgement, and then incorrectly recorded. 2 Quote
Corraleno Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 I got my Pfizer shots at a Kroger pharmacy, and they showed up in my medical records (my PCP uses the MyChart app) without me doing anything. The information includes lot #, pharmacy, and even which arm I got it in. 1 Quote

What else is close enough in her book? “weigh?” -135. “’ll just put 150, close enough!” “LMP?” -July 19 ”I’ll just put August 1, close enough!” ”Why are you here?” -chest pain “I’ll just put not feeling well, close enough!” 4 Quote
