mlktwins Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 I am having 3 different MRI's the week of the 10th. I need to wear a mask that doesn't have metal in it during the MRI. I have a Happy Mask, but I think there is metal in the nosepiece. I will confirm with them. Any good masks out there that you know don't have metal? Quote
wathe Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 That's a tough one. Some of hard plastic respirator style masks might be metal-free - something like Castle-grade maybe Cheapie solution is to use a surgical mask from which your've removed the wire, under a well-fitting cloth mask, or surgical mask alone with medical tape across the top to fix the gaps. prairiewindmomma Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 I am with wathe—buy a paper KF94 and cut the wire out and tape into place. I think we are past the point where cloth masks like Old Navy are going to cut it with this current infection wave. 1 Quote
bibliophile Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 My son wears hospital issued surgical masks during his MRIs. They do have some type of metal nosepiece. Unfortunately, Happy Masks aren’t MRI compatible. Quote
Amy Gen Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 When I have an MRI or a PET scan, I wear whatever mask I want, and as I’m lying down, about to go into the machine, the tech switches it out for a mask without metal. I realize that the facility may have told you to make sure to bring a mask without metal, but in my experience they would still make me switch over to the mask that they provide. 2 Quote
Arcadia Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 When I went for my MRI, they gave me a new disposable mask at the checkin counter which is right next to the entrance. Those do not have the metal piece. Quote
Pawz4me Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Since the pandemic started the imaging center has been providing DH with an appropriate mask for his CT scans. He wears his own into the building and they give him one for the scan. Quote

gardenmom5 Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 I was at an urgent care clinic yesterday- and they required me to wear one of their disposable masks. does the MRI facility provide them (to make sure the patient has the appropriate - and clean - type of mask? Quote
City Mouse Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 When I had an MRI a few months ago, I was required to wear(change to) the disposable mask that was provided by the facility. Same thing happened when I went in for scheduled surgery. Quote

YaelAldrich Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Totobobo has no metal but they're going to think it's a vented mask. I just put one of their dumb masks on top of it. Quote
