Mrs Tiggywinkle
You have to laugh. I have horrible luck. Truly. The car rental got screwed up by Priceline and the only vehicle I rent would come out to $500 a day. I wound up Ubering. I hadn’t eaten and got car sick and then I threw up in the Uber. It was terrible; the poor driver. i tipped $50 on a $40 trip. DW was great. Except the one ride in the whole parks that my daughter really wanted to go on(Slinky Dog Dash) went down five minutes before our time to go in. She decided she wanted to go back to the pool to swim, which we did just in time for the afternoon lightning to hit and close the pool. Then it rained four inches. The morning we were to leave(Uber took me from Orlando to Tampa area for like $85) and go to my sister’s(DD is staying with her family for a week to play with her cousins) in Tampa, my sister texted she’d just been notified that her foster son had a Covid exposure at day care 8 days prior. No problem. DD and I would hole up in a hotel for another day. Another sister was flying into Tampa last night for a wedding next weekend, so we just got a hotel in the area till the foster son cleared his 10 days from exposure. I changed my plane ticket till Wednesday and we were good to go. Six hours ago my husband called to tell me one of his closest lifetime friends and fellow firefighter was killed, along with his girlfriend, in a motorcycle accident this morning. He needed me to come home(he didn’t say so, but I knew from his voice). So daughter is left with sister in the hotel room for another day and I got a flight home tonight. (Don’t feel too bad for DD; sister is taking her to the aquarium and zoo tomorrow) The DAS pass was a lifesaver though. 😂(I have to laugh, because I’m going to cry all the flight home for our friend and his children; his name was Josh—I don’t remember the girlfriend’s name—if you could keep them in your prayers. They were participating in a motorcycle ride raising money for the local military USO charity When a car pulled out in front of him and they collided. His own fire department, including DH, responded.) 8/2 Edit: my sister just called and is taking my daughter to the ER. She has a 103 degree fever, excruciating head pain, and a large amount of foul smelling pus and blood streaming out her ear. She has never had an ear infection, even as a baby. She swims almost daily during the summer and has never had swimmer’s ear. Do I fly down? Wait? I can catch a flight out at 7pm tonight. I also have a crappy sinus infection(rapid Covid negative so at least not that). How are the hospitals in Tampa? I’m back in New York, but I can leave if needed. DD9 still thinks this trip is magical, but I’m really over it. Edited August 2, 2021 by Mrs Tiggywinkle

Mrs Tiggywinkle
On the other hand…it’s amazing luck that it just happened to be the one week this year that my other sister was there(she lives on the West Coast) and could stay in a hotel with DD, and still do fun things with DD and her cousins who weren’t exposed. Otherwise DD would have either had to come home with me after looking forward to this for a year or I would have needed to stay in Florida and not be with DH right now. I’m on my layover. I literally cannot wait to get home and give my husband a hug. I was looking at the girlfriend’s FB and she had public photos from the start of the motorcycle ride this morning and was all excited. I literally just want to hug my family right now.

You can tell a mama who has been through the trenches, when even in pure chaos, they can say "but wait....look....there were happy things that made the horrible, not so bad!!!!" Lots more hearts....💛💙💛💜💛💙💛💜 and (((((HUGS))))))

Praying also for Josh's family; what a shocking, horrible loss. I'm so sorry.

DH went back to his construction job today. He owns a really small contracting company and Josh was one of his(four part time very informal) employees, so they worked together a lot. He’s having a hard day working on the project they were at on Friday. It’s just hard all the way around but we are resilient. DD is apparently eating a donut in the ED so the Tylenol must have kicked in. My sister from the west coast is only 23 but is handling this like an experienced mom and I am super proud of her. My other sister’s foster son has had his second negative Covid test so that is good too that he didn’t catch it. And my job is so flexible and if I call and say I need another week off because my daughter needs me they won’t blink an eye about it. I’m focusing on the good.

Scarlett
Oh my word! Yes wait to hear from doctor before you decide. Kids bounce back from things so fast.....hard to say who might need you more at this moment.
Shelydon
One of my kids has Eustachian tubes that close during a flight and never open back up. She gets an ear infection every single time we fly. That might be what happened. If that is the case, I would leave her in the care of your sister. Antibiotics will clear things up. Might ask for a steroid too.

Mrs Tiggywinkle
It’s a very infected ruptured ear drum. They are going to do 72 hours of steroid drops and antibiotics, then relook at it. They may need to do some surgical devridement or repair according to the PA. But she can’t swim and is super upset. 😞
mommyoffive
Oh wow. So scary. I am sending so many good thoughts your way. Is your dd staying down there or coming home?
Mrs Tiggywinkle
Staying—the PA strongly recommended against flying right now. I also think the medical care there is better than my rural small town. This girl is a fish and loved the ocean and swimming though, but our pool will be installed by the time she gets home and we have a boat and live on one of the Fingerlakes in NY, but it’s not the Gulf of Mexico.
