Carrie12345 Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 We’re scheduled to start clearing trees and brush next week! I’m hoping this means we’ll get an updated timeline soon, even if just a rough one. There’s a house in the neighborhood that’s gone from clearing to siding in just a couple of weeks, but that’s with a different (and kinda skeevy) builder, so I’m not holding my breath or anything. But I really need to know when I can at least have a garage to put appliances in, because ordering timeframes are all over the place, and I don’t have anywhere to store anything earlier! 9 Quote
Amy in NH Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 DH has been having his clients pay for an on-site storage container for building materials so that they can order ahead to make sure they don't run into supply shortages, and also to make sure things don't disappear from the jobsite. Could you do that for your appliances? 1 Quote

mommyoffive Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 Congrats!! Super exciting. I was just going to ask when the house is going to be done. ARe you taking lots of before pics? Quote

Will the place you are buying from store them for you? We ordered all new kitchen appliances in May as we are at the tail end of a five year remodel. They all (three different manufacturers) arrived far sooner than expected, so we’ve asked the appliance store to store them until our wood floors are refinished in the fall. Quote

I can try asking there, too. I would think they’d want some sort of timeframe though, right? At the moment, I can’t say much more than anywhere from November to April, lol. Hopefully I can narrow that down a bit soon! Quote
RootAnn Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Our former neighbors built a house & closed on it several months ago (March?). They are still waiting on many appliances to be delivered the last time I heard. 1 Quote

There are some in stock that I could settle for, but they’re not what I prefer, and I definitely can’t guarantee they’ll be in stock later. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, but my hands are tied and the bush isn’t mature yet, lol. 2 Quote

There’s only one other property on the cul de sac “bulb”, and I recently saw those neighbors for the first time, even though I drive over on a pretty regular basis. They seem nice and didn’t give off any sort of annoyed vibe about all the noise they’re about to be subjected to, so that’s good! And they’re renters (of 5 years), so if they need any house help, they’ve got a landlord to call instead of me. 🤣🤣🤣 Quote

I’m gonna guess that is the basement/foundation and the rain is from Henri Quote

Carrie12345 Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 Sorry, lol. Yeah, that’s my lovely basement pool, compliments of Henri. The picture was taken late yesterday afternoon, so I can only imagine what it looked like in the early hours. I’m trying to resist going over there until much later today to see how it’s going. We have great weather today and tomorrow, but it looks iffy after that. Even if it drains pretty well before then, I’m thinking our footers are going to be delayed quite a bit! As a side note, and it’s hard to see in this wet picture, there’s a layer of black soil in our otherwise red clay from a forest fire around 25 years or so ago. That was kinda cool to see. Quote
Carrie12345 Posted August 30, 2021 Author Posted August 30, 2021 The pool has drained! They dug our trench to where the septic will be, so I don’t have to worry as much about the ADDITIONAL 6” of rain we’re expecting from Ida. Of course that will still delay pouring our foundation, but not like standing water would! 8 Quote
cjzimmer1 Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Yeah for drier soil! Is the ground naturally that rocky or is that stuff that washed in? Either way I don't envy whoever has to clean up all those stones. Quote

That’s what the majority of this mountain is, including my current house, and it’s a landscaping/gardening nightmare! It’s just going to get used as backfill and grading (property has a nice slope) and then a bit of screened soil will be hauled in. All planting has to be built up, which is why I’ve been trying to plan for next spring since this past spring! This is why, when people were recommending fencing ideas to shut out my current neighbors, I tried to explain I’d need heavy duty equipment, lol. (Which wouldn’t fit in my space anyway.) 1 Quote

I guess I missed it that you lived in a mountainous area. The rocks make so much more sense in that context. I had remembered you talking about a garden and I was thinking, there's no way to garden in that soil. Going up is a great idea, not only to avoid your rocks but frankly it's so much easier to tend to then getting all the way down to the ground. About 4-5 years ago, I had my son build a frame around my garden space (It's only about 8x12) and then I filled it up. It was great even to get it up the extra 8 inches and then 2 years ago, I had him put another layer of boards on so now it's 16 inches off the ground. I suspect in another year or two I'll be adding another layer, as I age I so dearly appreciate the height. Quote

Yes, I’ve never had great knees and I’m tall, so there’s only so much complaining I can really do about building up, lol. And I’m only going to keep getting older! 1 Quote
