  • Cook black beans   In progress
  • Make potato salad? Maybe.
  • Make more pickles!
  • Get mom’s Keurig out of storage.
  • Package mailed
  • Boy to the pool
  • Dinner at the pool?

Did you move to Australia, or are you working ahead? I think today is Friday. 😉

I'm curious about your process for cooking black beans, do you have any secrets? My method is still evolving.

Pssst, it's still Friday 😉

My day today:

....coffee
....DH take DS to the mall to meet up with some friends
...me go teach the 5 yr old
....come home, lunch with those who are here
....laundry (fold some, wash some)
....sew
....decide if I can up my class maximum (have had an inquiry for K, but am currently at 10 students, my self-imposed max.....)
....plan meals I can make & drop off for a neighbor/friend, her whole family has Covid 😞 (I would porch-drop)
....figure out my own meals/menu for the week
....grocery store as needed
....at some point, actually pick up my car
....maybe hopefully possibly make it to Ikea if the car is ready early enough
....more sewing &/or TV time while the guys video game tonight
....anything I'm forgetting.....

Fixed it! I woke up thinking today was Saturday. Not sure why! 😄

Posting before coffee is not recommended! 🤣

Black beans recipe - adapted from a friend who adapted it from Jamie Oliver!

In a crock pot:

16 oz dry black beans

1 chopped yellow onion

4 cloves of garlic, minced

1 carrot, chopped

1 celery stalk, chopped

1 tomato, chopped

2 t. Salt

1t. Pepper

1 t. Cumin

1/2 t. Oregano

Boil 5-6 cups of water, pour into crock pot, stir. Cook on HIGH 4 hrs. Eyeball the water occasionally to keep the consistency. If you want soup, up the water to 8 C.

Use an immersion blender a bit when they are done, if you like.

These freeze great.

I have been working on better sleep and matching my schedule more closely to dh. Good results this week. Today I was up bright and early for a doctor’s appointment and I even made my bed.

My focus today is sorting books and cleaning bookshelves. Also need to get some serious writing done for work. And heck, throw in some laundry, too.

Good morning! I think I had the most sleep in one night that I've had this whole summer. It felt so good to sleep in!

@TheReader, your mention of IKEA inspired me. We stopped at the one in Ohio on the way to my MIL's. We got some good ideas for the new house. There is one in Atlanta, too, so we can shop there after we get moved in.

@ScoutTN, that sounds like a good bean recipe. Thanks for sharing!

@SusanC, welcome to the tackle thread!

@math teacher, I've never head of bullet proof coffee. I'll have to look that up.

@Harriet Vane, what kind of writing do you do?

I made breakfast and had my decaf coffee I love. I've been trying to find it at Kroger's we have passed, and I finally found it yesterday.

After all the accommodating we have done with these sellers, they actually asked this morning if we could close 8/12 instead of 8/9. We said no. Our ds moves in the dorm 8/13. We really can't move him in and ourselves in the same day.

Today is a day to relax and stay home. Our niece and her family are coming over tonight, so that should be fun!

Thanks. I'm more of a random lurker. No way I can keep up with all the cool stuff on WTM. Sometimes I get drawn in because I see people do things on this thread that I hadn't considered - check boxes! strike through! actually making a list and then doing the things! 😄

Plus, that typo made me do a double take, and then ponder the possiblity of actually moving to Australia.

The agents are checking with the seller to see if we might could close earlier! I really hope so! Evidently this request was because of a business trip the seller wants to go on.

Oh, that would be amazing!! I hope so!

And yay for the ideas from Ikea! We love especially their Hemnes line of stuff, it's much more "real furniture"-esque than some lines. My sewing room is all that line. I am not sure what line the shelves are for DS's room.....I think they are the not-Billy's because Ikea was, I think, phasing out the Billys or something and we got a different one......will be interesting to match up what we have with what we find over there. If we ever get my car back and can go.

This thread has been excellent for helping me actually do the things on the list. I hope it helps you as well!

And moving to Australia does have appeal, doesn't it....?

Howdie, happy Friday!

I slept in this morning, because we didn't have to go anywhere or have any conference calls or a.m. deadlines.  Yay!

However, before I had my first sip of coffee, I got embroiled in an annoying discussion.  About where to go for dinner tonight.  My least favorite "first world problem."  A certain person wanted us all to take the pup to an outdoor food festival.  "Dogs are welcome!"  Yeah, well-trained dogs!  Our puppy does not like other dogs, and he isn't a big fan of strange humans either.  And he's big and strong and likes to pull.  And bark.  Yes, I know I need to train him better.  I'm working on it.  We're not ready for an outdoor food festival right now.  (PS he's a 6-month-old German Shepherd, gorgeous, but scary to some people when he barks.)

So we argued for what felt like an hour.  And guess what?  We're going to the outdoor food festival this evening.  And I now have a headache.

Meanwhile, I have some work stuff to do, so I'd better get on that.  😛

I taught the 5 yr old and am home

DH reports the mall outing seems to be going well -- ds, and 2 pairs of siblings all hanging out together; there are reportedly a few other kids there as well but apparently those ones branched off on their own? And the mom/adult who was supposed to be there, DH hasn't met, and I'm not sure if I should or should not relay that info to the other moms or not....? (the other kids in question are all younger than DS, and I know at least one of them I think agreed to this on the basis of the kids having a grown-up with them) (but, their own kids can report this to them, right?? I don't need to??)

Need to find some lunch and start the rest of the list.....

-decided on dinner for tonight for us

-decided on a dinner I can make my neighbor tonight

-took out stuff to thaw for weekend food (DH wants to do a turkey, of which we have 3, and a big pork loin, of which we have 2)

-DH is finally on the way home from the mall with DS (he let him stay an extra hour & a half later than planned.....)

-I don't need to grocery shop after all

-started laundry, heading up to swap it over now

-then will fold the ones that are waiting, while I wait for DH to get home

I made garlic bread pizzas for lunch. I’ve spent the afternoon watching some of my current series.

I think we’re picking up dinner from a favorite local Greek restaurant.

Called the Toyota place, and finally my car will be done right before they close :sigh:

DH and DS made it home, DH is lying down due to a headache

Oldest is at Hobby Lobby

Got all the laundry folded (cannot go put away our half b/c dh is asleep), the load I washed today is in the dryer

I am trying to not be too overly annoyed about the car

Had to come home early from the pool because the grill was out of all the ok-for-diabetics food. Argh! Working really hard to keep my blood sugar numbers in a good place. Especially with the delta variant impending.

Made a salad. Took my vitamins. Walked.

Next up: read! Enjoying The Pickwick Papers.

got the laundry put away

made spaghetti & meatballs (frozen meatballs, jar sauce) for the sick neighbors and dropped that on their porch, with a text that it was there; should be good for dinner/lunch/dinner for them

made gnocchi with ground chicken/broccoli/kalamata olives/onions for us, with some peccorino romano cheese (grated) that we had -- at the same time as making the spaghetti -- and that turned out really good

ate dinner

oh! picked up my car!!! finally. AND the guy from today had managed a 10% discount, thank goodness, AND the cashier person was exceptionally nice, so I left an honest review about both the good and the bad (naming by name the 2 employees who showed excellent customer service). I'm so glad we have my car back. It seems fixed, but I wont' know for sure until I back out in the morning, when the sound usually happens,.

DH is mowing the lawn, Oldest is helping, afterwards they will likely video game and I will veg out with the TV.
