Janeway
I found my rising 1st grader caught on to so much just from sitting in on and being a part of lessons for his older sister. So he already knows stuff like nouns and verbs and such. He is also doing science along side. And we read tons of books. And he is doing Story of the World with us. We are doing OPGTR. I lost my FLL book. He is doing Singapore Math. Would it be so bad if I left everything like this and not buy anything else for him this year at this point? Oh, and he also already has handwriting books. It is just that before I knew it, he already knew everything from the stuff I had already bought and now I am giving it all away and moving on. He seems to learn so well from just being a part of his siblings lessons and from the fact that we read with him a lot.
Kiara.I
Sure, it's fine. The beauty of homeschooling is that you can work with the child you have, where they are.

Momto6inIN
We don't do much in 1st anyway besides phonics and math and handwriting, so I say sure 🙂
Sarah0000
Sure. I'd say try to encourage some kind of free writing outside of handwriting but this doesn't have to be "school."
