Janeway Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Just for a fun post for today. My dad's dog, a boy, came with tons of clothes. There are also several polo style shirts. My dog, a girl, can fit them too. So the kids put shirts on both dogs. The big question is...should I be getting girly clothes for my girl dog to match the boy clothes? Or should I just leave both dogs in polos? <smile> 2 Quote
teachermom2834 Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 My girl dog looks best in pajamas. I figure pajamas are always appropriate for a homeschool dog 🙂 4 4 Quote
Starr Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 They should both have outfits for all occasions and we want photos! 3 Quote
Tanaqui Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Here's the real question: Do the dog polo shirts have pockets, and are they functional? No joke, I've found that "boy coded" dog clothes with pockets have functional, if useless, pockets and "girl coded" dog clothes with pockets DO NOT. The pocket conspiracy of the patriarchy even affects *dogs*, guys. 4 5 Quote
TravelingChris Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 The only clothes I ever put on my dogs were coats because they were cold in winter and socks because some of them didn't like wetness, particularly cold wetness. Oh- and also had one costume too. 2 Quote
itsheresomewhere Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Clearly, they need more clothes and some that match. Mine have a collection of sweaters, cooling shirts, thunder shirts and pajamas. My bulldog mix loves his sweaters and thunder shirts. He will bring them to you to put on him. My Brussels griffon loves his clothes and wants you to dress him up and style his Mohawk and comb out his beard ( my daughter loves to style him). 3 Quote
Pawz4me Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 My dogs have a very limited wardrobe -- they each have a Thunder Shirt and a couple of sweaters for cold weather walks. I do kinda sorta try to stick to traditional colors that suit their gender, but I admit that sometimes I put boy dog's cozy dark blue sweater on girl dog. Because I'm pretty sure that (1) boy dog with his thick, plush hair doesn't really need the extra warmth, (2) girl dog with her fine, thin hair does, and (3) she doesn't care if she's mistaken for a boy. 😉 3 Quote

Carrie12345 Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 I think they should be allowed to wear whatever they want. 😄 2 2 Quote
Drama Llama Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 It's 2021, there are no girl and boy dog clothes. Clearly they both need sparkly pink purple dresses, and combat boots. They make combat boots for dogs don't they? 3 1 Quote

MercyA Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 (edited) Oh my goodness, Janeway, that is the cutest thing I've seen all day!!! 🥰 My dogs have enjoyed their sweaters and coats. My boy dog kind of looked like a tough little street dog and my girl dog is floofy, so they had / have clothes to match their respective styles. 😉 I say, whatever is comfortable for them and brings you joy! My girl dog does not like tutus. I had one on her. She worked it off and when she ran away, she saw it and thought it was ...I don't know...something to bark at though. She stood a few feet away and barked so long that I managed to video it. She sure put that tutu in its place! 2 Quote
Melissa in Australia Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 I don't get the dressing dogs in clothes thing 2 years ago my sil visited from Canada. She brought clothes over for our dog. She also brought stuffed toys for it. I gave the stuffed toys to the twins and put the dog clothes in the shed for rags. I have enough laundry without washing dog clothes. I have enough yard work without picking up stuffing spread everywhere. 1 Quote
Tanaqui Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Melissa, when you have a chihuahua in snowy weather, you'll understand why I dress my doggies in clothes in the winter. Admittedly I don't usually bother in the summer, but when I do put in the effort they look VERY CUTE. 2 Quote

But, it did not take long before that dog had a bigger wardrobe than her! And a fancy bed won at a charity auction. And boots and hats, and went to a doggy preschool where he had swim lessons (wearing a swim suit) and camera so she could check in on him from work and everything! 1 1 Quote
Tap Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 If you didn't already have clothes for your dog...I don't see a reason to start, since she will be just as cute borrowing her *cousins* clothes. 🤣 My dog has a rain jacket because she will plop her self in the mud and roll around to scratch her back when we take her for a walk in the rain. LOL The jacket is much easier to wash that she is. (45lb curly Golden-doodle). The other day there was a bulldog at the off-leash dog park wearing a pink dress with chiffon skirt. I felt bad for her. The outfit seemed to restrict her running because she kept moving in an unnatural way. I wish those owners would have thought about the dog's comfort since they were going through the effort to take him on a doggy focused outing. Putting clothes on a dog isn't something I encourage, but for most dogs they seem fine with it and it seems to entertain the humans around them. Quote
Kela Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 Does she like to dress up? My yorkiepoo loves when I make her a new dress...she is much more appreciative of my designs than my 6yo, lol. I say get her some cute dresses and she if she likes the attention. Quote
DawnM Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 Cute. My dogs have never had any clothes. We are doggie nudists around here. Quote
