wintermom
I have a kayak now!! I went for a quick paddle yesterday evening before 2 hours of tennis. Played more tennis this morning, and went for a kayak paddle with dd and our friends in their tandem kayaks this afternoon. I'm meeting a friend this evening to paddle my new kayak. My arms may fall off soon! Tomorrow I have more kayaking and tennis scheduled. If I have any arms left by that time, they should be good and muscled. 😉
Laura Corin
Sorry I've been AWOL. Mum has been poorly enough that the doctor recommended that anyone who would want to see her should come now. So we've had lots of family through. Lots of catering accomplished and negotiation between different relatives' needs. The weather has been good, so we've been in the garden as much as possible. I'm worn out from too much socialising. I took my brother and nephew for a scenic drive after supper as a break from having to work on conversation. Mum is better than she was. Managed to walk each day.
wintermom
@Laura Corin So sorry to hear your mum isn't doing well. It's great you can be with her, and really nice that she's doing better. I just got back from a 2 hr kayak with a friend on a near-by little river. It was so relaxing, and there was a lot of wildlife to see. We saw turtles sunning themselves on logs, a cormorant bird diving down in the water fishing and a pair of blue herons. I'm loving my new kayak!! The doctor said there were no signs of infection but she's doing better either because or in spite of the drugs. I drove the last visitors for now to the airport, and am regrouping with a cup of tea in the garden. That's such a happy kayak picture. I'm glad you fulfilled your wish.

Soror
My piriformis has been acting up. I thought I was just tight but then had some pain Friday evening and Saturday. I heavily modified my HIIT workout yesterday (it was more like LISS) and am continuing to do a ton of foam rolling and stretching and it is doing much better. I will be taking it easier this week- no add on strength workouts but will be doing extra stretching and core work. Today I did a 4 mile walk at a park before it got so unbearably hot (heat advisory going on this week).

My kayak is a recreation one, a little wider and heavier than a light touring. It's a Riot Edge 11' with a skeg. I can lift it on and off our little trailer by myself, which was my requirement. It's 55 lbs. There are very few kayaks available in our area now, so I was very lucky to get this. I love it! http://www.riotkayaks.com/index.php/our-kayak/day-touring/51-edge-11-skeg

Yesterday morning 10 miles in 3 hours, today the remaining 14 in 4. Over 4th of July, we covered 76 miles in 4 days, averaging around 4 miles per hour at slight flood stage. 55 lbs is heavy. I can see that working with a trailer. Mine is just under 50 lbs, and I cannot lift it by myself to the roof of the car. We picked ours for stability and comfortable seat for multi-day tours; plus, our rivers have sharp gravel and shallow spots, so a strong hull was a requirement. But man, it's so much fun. Laura Corin
Really worn out today. Tired enough that I took a lateral flow test - negative. I'll test again over the coming few days - my mum's health issues brought me into closer contact with people than I was used to or comfortable with. I think I just need a quiet day or two. So today I'll just walk the dog - maybe some yoga later. 3

Ali in OR
30 min on the treadmill today. Stressful week ahead (well, stressful for summer anyway). Dh will be driving down to CA to pick up middle dd for a month at home. Youngest needs to sign up for classes today and they all show as full already online. Just a lot of little things all hitting this week. 3
lynn
Weekly accountability. Did some beach body MBFA(Muscle Burns Fat advanced) and even though I've done many months of body beast this one is challenging to lift as heavy as I'd like. I don't care for the bod ropes so I do different cardio moves. School starts next week so m schedule will change since I drive my girl to school in the mornings but I've loved this summer schedule of getting my workout in early. Hope everyone is doing well.
Ali in OR
Dh usually takes the dog out on a morning run (which Molly loves). With him gone this week, my morning exercise will be a 30 min dog walk around the neighborhood. Loved it this morning--it really is nice to exercise outside this time of year (well, at least at 6:00am. Will be in the 90's all week). And dd got into all of her classes on the first try yesterday--a little luck plus a kid with a good plan and good tech skills. She's driving farm equipment this summer but had her courses entered and ready to go and she hit the submit button on her phone right at 8:00am when it opened, from whatever field she was working in. Job interview for me later this week, so that's the next stressor.

I'm one of those weird people who enjoys interviews; actually starting new jobs is a whole nother story so I'm sitting tight for now! I did a good brisk walk including hills for three miles yesterday and then some bedtime yoga. I slept better too. I'll maybe try a bit of a run today if the paths aren't too puddle-filled - we had a lot of rain overnight. ETA: I was at the doctor's this morning because I'm starting to get light-headed sometimes when I stand up. Various blood tests ordered, but they also took my blood pressure sitting and standing. My sitting pressure falls into the 'ideal' zone, so that makes me feel as though my variable and really quite moderate exercise is doing good. Standing blood pressure isn't that low, so nothing to be done for now until the blood tests come back. My piriformis is not bothering me anymore but I am sore from my workout and want to keep it from bothering me again. Last night I walked at the indoor track as the heat index is over 100. I as the only one there almost the whole time, 1 couple came for a bit but it was easy to stay half a lap away.
Harriet Vane
I did a pretty intense weights and core session yesterday, then spent hours doing some home rearranging. I am sore today and am going to allow myself a day of rest. I might go for a walk this evening when it cools off.
Carrie12345
Completed week 5 day 2 C25k. I think I’m still alive, but I’m not 100% sure. Two 8 minute jogs with a 5 minute walk in between. I had to slow my pace to finish that second one, but I got through it! The idea of doing 15 straight minutes on Friday is VERY intimidating. Even at my fittest, I’ve never challenged myself this much with cardio. I’m not enjoying the physical aspect, but I’m impressed with the mental/motivation changes! ETA: also lost about 5lbs, which feels less impressive than I’d hoped, but it’s still good. Edited July 28, 2021 by Carrie12345
Ali in OR
Outer loop around the neighborhood this morning--some gentle hills. Looks like it's about 1.75 miles and takes almost exactly 30 min. But there are some sniff breaks for Molly in there.

Repeating weeks is completely legitimate if you feel your body or mind need to catch up. ---------- A successful exercise day yesterday. I kept my heart rate good and high for 45 minutes by going to an area of mixed flat path and hills. I ran on the flat/gentle slopes and walked briskly up the hills, planning the route so I was never running down anything steep. It's near home so I managed it in my lunch hour. After work and housework, I did 25 minutes of yoga on the lawn.

Remember it is ok to just do what you can. ____________ rest day for me- 20 min of gentle yoga and 20 min low intensity cardio; Hoping to walk after teaching. Today is the hottest day of the year so far with heat index 105-110 starting at 10 so I have to get out there early or not at all.
Ali in OR
I've done C25K a couple of times too, and I remember that fear of the suddenly longer run. You don't think you're ready, but then it's not as hard as you thought it was going to be. You're more ready than you know, but it's a big mental leap. 99° here today and tomorrow. Not as hot as our June heat wave, but still a heat wave. Molly and I did our early morning loop. We started before 6:00 and saw no one for the first half, but then lots of people and dogs are out and about by 6:10.

wintermom
I got in a couple really nice paddles the last couple evenings (2 hrs each), one in my kayak and one in the canoe. Both paddling styles use different muscles, so not ALL my upper body is a little sore. 😅 Dh and I are playing doubles this evening, which should work my lower body to ensure my entire body is sore. It's a good 'pain,' though. 😉
Ali in OR
Did the neighborhood loop with Molly--probably the last day of that. She likes to stop at the blackberry bushes--I pick a few for her, but now she's learned to pick her own while I'm also getting them. July wrap up--my weight is not down 3 pounds and food tracking stopped when summer school began. Yesterday's weight was down 1 pound and today's is down 2 pounds from 7/1--but that 2 pounds probably isn't real. I don't think I'll lose any in August--too much good eating, all the kids home, in-laws visiting. So I think new goals will just be maintaining what I'm doing now.
Laura Corin
Managed to run a couple of miles. Soror
On 7/1/2021 at 5:59 AM, Soror said: Thanks Laura for getting us started! My July goals: -get stronger - keep on working on balanced meals and balanced intake over the day- with an eye toward adequate protein and plenty of fruit and veggies and watching portion sizes on things it is easy to over indulge - increase gratitude and positivity The workout plan I had started is not working so I'm trying out some different things this week and plan to start something new on Monday. I will be aiming for a shorter workout(35-45 minutes) as we are starting back to school and my older ones are still at home. I will be primarily focused on strength work with some cardio in there. I will be using the Daily Dozen checklist to count my fruit, veggie, and whole grain intake. It is quick and easy to use. I will be using a gratitude journal. So, food has been good most of the month (with some hungries in there but not too bad). Protein is good (and as long as it stays up hunger stays level). I found a workout program and complete Week 4 of it today- Epic Heat (from Caroline Girvan- free on Youtube). I LOVE it. It is my favorite program and trainer ever, hands down. I do 4 days of strength training and 1 day of HIIT a week. I also try to walk when I can and occasionally bike ride. I'm definitely getting stronger. - Not kept track of fruit, veggie, gratitude, meditation. Nope, nope, nope. Attitude and stress have been better and fruit and veggie intake good enough so I guess that is ok. I aim to do the least I can for success. ___________________ Today is HIIT and some walking. Maybe a short bike ride.
wintermom
I went for a really nice kayak paddle with a friend. We're both getting stronger at paddling, and went about twice as long at a faster pace than our last couple of paddles. Feels great! I'm playing tennis twice tomorrow as long as the weather holds, which I really hope it does. 😉
