crazyforlatin Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 DD was hoping for an in-person class, but the teacher will not be offering it this year. She has taken Chemistry previously. Has anyone done well on the AP just with Thinkwell videos? Or are these videos better as a supplement? The one we are considering now is PA Homeschoolers. Is there a preference between Kernion and Moskaluk? I noticed WHA is offering a class, but we have a scheduling conflict for that day/time. Quote
SoCal_Bear Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 (edited) It seems like a lot of people recommend Moskaluk. Connie (Clover Valley Chemistry) recommends his course. on her website. However there isn't a live component to that class. Isn't Kernion the only one offering AP Chem with a live component? I have heard positive things about him as well. crazyforlatin Posted June 14, 2021 Author Posted June 14, 2021 Oh right, I remember Connie mentioning Moskaluk. It seems like either teacher would be fine. I haven’t really found many options for an AP Chem class. At first I was thinking Blue Tent would offer it - they do have AP Bio - just not AP Chem. Quote
SoCal_Bear Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 I thought I remembered @8filltheheart also recommended his course as well. She rarely recommends any online course. 1 Quote

SoCal_Bear Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 All things equal would the live class tip the balance for Kernion? 1 Quote
cuckoomamma Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 My daughter took Moskaluk’s class without chem previously and did very well on the AP. She does well studying on her own, though. 1 Quote
AEC Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 DS took Moskaluk's AP Chem at PAH this past year. He liked it. It went well. practice tests suggest a 5. That said....it was not difficult. He took the class Connie (CloverValley) is now calling 'Advanced Honors Chem' the year before, and said it covered more and in more depth. AP was basically a review. 1 Quote

AP was basically a review. That's great to know your DS is doing well with the AP class. Dd had Connie's class a couple of years ago. It was Honors Chem, and the first class she offered as a new provider, along with the regular chem class. I do remember it was challenging, usually taking about 8 hours or more every week, but Dd wasn't ready or even interested in taking the AP test at that point. Now, she has more of an interest in chemistry, so she's enrolled in Connie's self-paced organic chemistry class. Quote

AEC Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 He took them back to back….and is signed up for Connie’s OChem this year (he’s super excited about it). CloverValley Honors Chem was work. Maybe 10 / week, and some very focused studying for days before midterms and the final. AP Chem was pretty light. He watched maybe 1/2 the video lectures and tended to do the HW the night before it was due, and ended up with >99% in the class. it was totally a review class. Which was fine - it was a stressful year and he also took both PhysicsC APs this year. But he probably could have skipped the class and just taken the AP exam after the clover valley course. 1 Quote
