Jenny in Florida Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 Today is the fifth anniversary of the shooting at the Pulse nightclub here in Orlando. My daughter called a while ago and talked about how she couldn't sleep last night, remembering how it felt five years ago to be awake in the middle of the night following the news story. I was thinking about my own reaction, which was to be so relieved that my own daughter was safely in NY and that she didn't actually lose anyone close to her, then to be so appalled at the selfishness of that feeling, knowing that it just meant some other family was grieving, instead. I know this tragedy isn't unique or "the worst" or anything, but it still feels raw to many Orlandoans. If you have a few minutes to remember, please do? I found this video of families reading the names of the lost while a bell tolls for each one especially moving. 1 17 Quote
DawnM Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 I remember it well. One of the doctors was a friend of ours. He was on several news stations. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/pulse-orlando-nightclub-shooting/os-orlando-shooting-ormc-cheatham-20160719-story.html His father, Mel Cheatham worked with my dad for a while. Such an awful tragedy. 2 Quote

I remember the hours and hours of following news stories and trying to figure out what was happening. Of not truly understanding how bad it was . . . until we did. 1 Quote
