Usborne baby shower book party what does this mean

I was invited to an Usborne Baby Shower Book Party on facebook.  What is the goal here?  Are guests supposed to buy a book for the expectant mom through the party, or shop for themselves so she can earn books to choose herself?

Both, I think. Or you can just buy a book for the mom to be.

That’s the way it was done when I got an invite.

Tupperware and Pampered Chef were other companies that do this, but for bridal showers.

If it is a shower, I'd expect for you to buy a book for the baby. But also be able to buy for yourself.

I had a Pampered Chef bridal shower. The salesperson went through her presentation to explain the products. Then I had a form on which I listed the items that I was interested in owning. Then the attendees used my form as a guide and placed their orders for my shower gift. Later, when the items were in, the hostess of the party delivered the items to me, along with the list of who gave what, so that I could write thank-you notes.

The participants could also buy things for themselves, if they wanted to.

The way these parties work in general is that the hostess gains free items -- the more items sold, the more free items the hostess earns. The hostess of my shower gave me her free credits to choose other things that I wanted, as part of her gift to me.

I would expect the Usborne shower to work like this. You will get to see the books and other products and choose which things you would like to buy for the baby/mom.
