Last week for us before a break and summer term begins. It's much the same stuff as spring term, but a bit more relaxed.

Today's goals:

House: chores

Cooking: taco meat, etc.

School: art today

Gardens: none--raining

Writing: 2 chapters each in revision projects, keep up with Beta reading, 1500 in drafting project, sketching a character scene for painting today.

Art: class, maybe catch up on some prompts, but...raining. Things take forever to dry when it's this humid.

Good morning!

Classes start today in my house. 🙂 For me, not the kid. On the schedule:

  • Read chapter 1 for each class, do the introduction material
  • Mow the lawn
  • Work with the 11yo
  • Set up playdate for this weekend
  • Zoom meeting

Yesterday I went to a celebration of life for my neighbor.  He was well loved, with several of his students attending as well as a large group of friends and neighbors.  It was a beautiful day for it, and I'm so glad I went.  His dear friend introduced me to a group of people I hadn't met before: two being the neighbors to my right, and two being the original owners of my home.  I hope, when I leave this place, I have a similar experience with the next owners.  They were the nicest, sweetest people!  And I found out so much about our place: like the rather large couch we inherited had been in that room for 24 years! 😄  That's what happens when the next two sets of owners only live here for a few years each.  LOL

Update on the classwork:
I expanded the syllabi for each class to break it down to actual tasks, since the official ones only have things like the titles of the topics being covered and the teacher must be as scatterbrained as I am.  Due dates on both the class platform and the official syllabus for the children's literature class are out of order.  The other class splits between 2 platforms, plus emails with other listings.

Anyhow, for the week, it's a total of 27 separate tasks for the one class and 16 for the other once everything is organized, so aiming for 10 a day should keep me on track!

Happy Tuesday!

Personal: figure out why my knitting machine's tension is off, run/walk for 20 minutes, practice violin

Kid stuff: work with 11yo on his summer checklist

Home: organize bedroom closet, clean the shower

School: read, take two quizzes, and critique.

Outside the house: tutor, baseball game, grocery shop for dinner tonight

Good morning!

On the schedule:

  • Grocery shopping
  • Work with the 11yo
  • Give family hair cuts
  • Have a come-to-Jesus moment with the adult child about the state of their living spaces (I'm not a hardliner, but when we get into Hoarding territory I have the duty to intervene and protect my house)
  • Finish one class's work for the week, do a section of the other class's work - and check on the professor.  She has been MIA through zoom, email, and class website.  I hope she's okay.

Today was migraine management (okay on that front); troubleshooting some kitchen work we need to get done; minimal school.  Made it to the end, everybody's pretty happy and feels loved.  So: a win.

@HomeAgain -- hope that everything went well yesterday.  And mine need haircuts, too, but aren't getting 'em this week for sure ...

Oooh, migraines. 😞  They're the worst.

@serendipitous journey, everything did fall into place yesterday.  Oldest and I had a 5 minute chat.  Turns out he's been overwhelmed at work, being the highest employee who wasn't trying to get into a fist fight and get themselves fired.  So now he temporarily has a lot more responsibilities as they look for new hires.  However, the room got an hour's worth of work yesterday, and he's up early to tackle it today.

No response from the one professor.  The other did a mea culpa, admitted he's kicking it by the lake, and had accidentally shifted the due dates to pack 2 weeks' worth of work into one.  They're now shifted back a week.  Which means I am ahead of the game. 🙂

On the list today:

  • Re-pot my strawberries
  • Begin to clear the acre of underbrush that now needs to go to the town compost.
  • Tutor
  • Work with the 11yo
  • Give a 3 minute speech online, finish reading a chapter
  • Wash baseball uniform for tomorrow

Morning! I have been BUSY. Work, writing, prepping for my trip this weekend. But I'm about there, with one more big push today to get everything finished so I can go in peace.

Today's goals:

House: chores, grocery shopping and gift shopping

Cooking: hamburgers, smoke a pork shoulder, bake banana bread and a lemon pound cake

Gardens: watering all container plants, setting up watering with the boys so I don't come home to dead plants

Writing: 2 chapters each revised in novels, Beta reading

Trip: It's way too long of a list, but it's mostly packing, checking lists, packing...

Also, I won't be around this weekend to set up next week's accountability thread. How about a week off? Okay with everyone?

I hope the trip is fun!  and that packing, prepping and everything else goes well.

Oh my, I need this thread next week.  I was just popping on to say how glad I am for it, and y'all, right now ... I just began seriously "pinging" where elder DS is on math and he is really challenged on some fronts that I thought were okay.  Been skimming by on cleverness, but he can't crank out some pretty foundational stuff when he needs to.  So.  He'll need some arithmetic review to practice being careful, and then ... ???  I have a couple of options, and this set of challenges may make one of them the obvious choice.  Either work in AoPS, but drop back to where he is and move forward from there, or use some British books that come with worked solutions AND begin each chapter with a list of required skills and some problems to check that the student has said skills.

Anyhow: mind if I open the thread next week?  I could totally use it.

@HomeAgain-- so glad things went well yesterday!  Your oldest sounds like a good one 🙂 .  & you are ahead in classes: man, that is sweet!

Off to troubleshoot & manage.  Foci here today are: maths; Latin; music for younger; writing for elder; various English all around.  Tiny bits of German, too, we may go to Germany for a week or two a year from now.

It's Fri-Yay!

Y'all, I'm getting slightly worried about my one professor.  I have sent several emails in the past week due to class issues:
-question on an assignment
-not being able to meet on Zoom
-the one platform not showing all assignments necessary, so the last assignment can't be completed, or the extra credit she has posted

I'm not usually this needy, folks.  But I have not received a response to anything, and the class isn't set up well.  She has been incommunicado since the first of the month.  Nothing is graded, we're supposed to be diving into the second assignment set on Sunday, but there is no feedback on the 16 assignments for this week.  I don't want to overwhelm her, but for a class focused on communication, I find it slightly ironic that I haven't been able to communicate with the professor.

On the schedule today:

  • -clearing the underbrush
  • -getting more coffee (we're almost out, which would be a bad state for a Monday!)
  • -baseball game

Good morning!  I refuse to be held accountable today. 😄  What should be on my list is nothing.  What is actually on my list is reviewing my classmates' work and giving feedback.  We each need to review 7 students, and it's due today.

Would you like to guess the total number of students who have completed the task?  That's right, 6.  And since I cannot give feedback to myself, that means I'm sitting around waiting for 2 more students to get off their rear ends before the final hour and do the 1 minute task.

Have I mentioned how much I hate peer interaction?  It's such a lovely, class building activity in theory and SUCKS in real life.

Also, the communications professor is still MIA.  Platforms are still incomplete.  Still can't do the last task she assigned, or the extra credit.
