happi duck Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 Feel free to add your own questions about whole food plant based eating but here's my questions: I've read to take B vitamins and have your levels tested. Is this correct? Any favorite vitamin brands/formulas? I've been strict for twenty days, WFPB and oil free, but ate a store bought cupcake last night. I felt awful afterwards and didn't sleep well. Does it make sense that fat and sugar would feel so terrible? Backstory: In the past, we ate mostly wfpb at home. During the pandemic we slipped into easy, filling foods like lunchmeat, cheese, and eggs etc. Combined with less activity my cholesterol went from normal to high. Cholesterol meds aren't agreeing with me. Quote
Ditto Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 I eat wfpb and take vit b12. I have never had my levels tested. I like NOW vitamins. Yes, it does make sense that the cupcake would make you feel rotten. It doesn't surprise me at all. 1 1 Quote
lauraw4321 Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 I had my B12 tested and it was low, so I take 1000 mg daily. Yes, sugar and fat will make you feel like crap when you've been eating well. 1 1 Quote
Selkie Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 I like these vitamins because they are specifically formulated for wfpb women: https://smile.amazon.com/Dr-Fuhrmans-Womens-Daily-Formula/dp/B008RAA3HK/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=dr+Fuhrman+vitamin&qid=1622846915&sr=8-3 And I also take this algae DHA + EPA: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBIEPZQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 1 1 Quote
Selkie Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 Forgot to mention that I have never had my B12 levels tested. I have read that most people, including those who consume animal products, are low in B12. 1 1 Quote
ktgrok Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 YUp, sugar is processed by the liver the same way that alcohol is. It's booze without the buzz. So yeah, you can get a sugar hangover. 1 Quote
Indigo Blue Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 I’ve read that iodine is needed on WFPB and vegan diet. If your vitamin doesn’t contain iodine, maybe consider that or do your research about it. Make sure to get vitamin D, too. I take any liquid sublingual B12 that’s a good, reputable brand. I also take taurine but not every day. Just a few times a week just so I’m getting a little. Good for you for trying to eat in such a healthful way. I know what you mean when you do so well for so long and then fall off the wagon and feel sick. I’m doing well with being 99 percent vegan, but the sweets are hard to give up sometimes. I’m getting there. 1 Quote
