crazyforlatin Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I have an older family member who has IBS usually triggered by anything new in her system. The latest was coconut related. She doesn’t want the vaccine due to reading online that IBS could be worsened by the vaccine. For those with IBS issues, did the vaccine cause an IBS problem? How long did it last? FWIW, she also believed at one point, as read online, that the vaccine would cause infertility. So I don’t know if IBS is a legitimate side effect. Her previous flu shots have not gone that well, not allergic to them, but just slight fever, pain, and overall cruddy feeling. I'm hoping she can get one dose of Pfizer (supply is more than demand now in our area). Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I have IBS. I did not have any IBS symptoms as a result of the vaccine (Pfizer). I had a sore arm which I used as much as possible. I also had a possible low grade fever with the first dose but not the second. I had some fatigue. 3 1 Quote

I do vaguely remember you mentioning this on the other thread but couldn’t recall whether you did experience IBS or not. Thanks for letting me know, this is really going to help. 1 Quote
popmom Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 My dd has IBS but did not experience any worsening of symptoms after having the J&J vaccine. 1 Quote
crazyforlatin Posted May 20, 2021 Author Posted May 20, 2021 Just now, popmom said: My dd has IBS but did not experience any worsening of symptoms after having the J&J vaccine. Every experience counts towards her hopefully getting one dose of the vaccine, so thank you for sharing. 1 Quote
Pawz4me Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I have IBS. The only thing I noted in that regard was that on the third day after the second dose of Pfizer I had quite a lot of fairly intense cramping. I can't say for sure that it was related to the vaccine, but I did note it on the V-Safe app. It started quickly and seemed to stop quickly, and lasted for about 15 hours. 1 Quote
Spryte Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I have IBS, and experienced no IBS type side effects. 1 Quote
dsmith Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 2 IBS sufferers here, nothing from the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. Stress is the main cause of flares for me nowadays, and I've been much better since the vaccine! 1 Quote
strawberries Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 My mother is 72 and has IBS. She had both doses of Pfizer back in January/February and neither caused any IBS-related side effects. Just fatigue with the first, fatigue and muscle aches with the second. 1 Quote
catz Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I have IBS. I didn’t know this was possible. I had no IBS problems. Less than 24 hours of light flu symptoms with dose 2. I had the Pfizer. 1 Quote
Harriet Vane Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I have not been diagnosed with IBS but I do have chronic gastro issues. I had no GI symptoms at all after either Pfizer shot. I did have exhaustion and muscle/joint aches for a couple days with the first shot. The second shot was much better—just some low-level tiredness and mild achiness for a day. 1 Quote
crazyforlatin Posted May 20, 2021 Author Posted May 20, 2021 Thank you so much for sharing! This is very encouraging and hopefully knowing that there are people here who didn’t have any IBS issues will encourage her to get the vaccine. Right now I’m just focusing on having her get the first shot. Quote
scbusf Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 My mom has IBS and had both Pfizer doses. She had zero symptoms other than a sore arm. 1 Quote
