DawnM Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 I am just hiring a cleaner, 6 man hours of work, and I may do it again to get the house in a condition I am able to maintain through the summer. Anyway, do I tip them on top of the fee? They don't work for a company, they do it as their own business. What is the going rate for a 6 hour clean in your area? I haven't gotten the quote yet, but it looks like about $50/hour. Yikes. Quote
Toocrazy!! Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 I would not tip them if they work for themselves. I assume they set the rate they want paid. 4 Quote
Spryte Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 I always tip. Always. As do all of the people I know who have cleaners. Even if they own their own business. This may vary regionally, and I learned it from my realtor stepmom, who definitely knows what’s up in this area. (I don’t tip other business owners, just the cleaners.) We have an amazing cleaner. She charges less than most around here, and does a beautiful job. I tip because we don’t want to lose her - she’s in very high demand. And because she undercharges for the work she does, in our area. She charges a flat fee each week she comes, and it works out to $25 per person per hour. I tip each time. And pay for an extra week once a year or so, around the holidays. Again, standard around here. We stopped from last March till last month, and our first clean was a doozy. I requested a deep clean rather than our normal routine. I think it took around 6 hours, maybe a little longer. $350 for two people. I tipped, and offered lunch (they did not accept). But! I need to clarify that we have a long term relationship with this cleaner, and I wanted to pay her extra during lockdown, even when she could not come, and she wouldn’t allow it. This was the most could get her to accept. YMMV, since you are in a different state. 1 Quote

I don't tip but I give them a large monetary gift at Christmas and in the summer. Edited May 16, 2021 by QueenCat 1 Quote
