Jean in Newcastle Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 We are remodeling the kitchen. There is a problem cabinet that because of where it is located, we can't get into the cabinet very easily. So dh was wondering last night if he could build sort of a hidden appliance garage in the cabinet where the stand mixer rises up out of the countertop. (He has the carpentry skills to do this.) But my google fu is leaving me high and dry. I am not quite sure what words to google to see plans or even to see if this is possible. If I haven't explained it well enough, let me know and I will try to use more words to explain what I want: We are envisioning something where the countertop is cut from above, there are hinges that open up the counter and then a movable shelf (with stand mixer for example) moves up into position. Ellie Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I have never seen anything like that. o_0 Is it in a corner? Would there be seams, such that if you were using the counter for other kitchen-y stuff, crumbs and whatnot would be caught in the crevices? Quote

Miss Tick Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Gosh, it would be nice not to have to lift my stand mixer from the storage cabinet up on to the counter! I like how the mixer it's stored parallel to the counter to take up less space. I hope your dh is able to assemble exactly what you want. 1 1 Quote

Indigo Blue Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 Wow. How cool that your husband can do that for you! My husband is very handy, but something like this isn’t something we could do without hiring out at least some parts of it. What a neat idea. 1 Quote
Beth S Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 I saw this on a DIY youtube. Hinge elevates the actual cabinet shelf, so it swings up to the countertop level. https://www.amazon.com/Rev-Shelf-RAS-ML-HDCR-Height-Cabinet/dp/B0042QB6M4 1 1 Quote

There was no cut in the cabinet, you could just raise it up to be level with it. Then when done, lower it back down. 2 Quote
