But they were out of most of the junk I felt drawn to, so I walked out spending just $113 out of our normal $200 budget. It was weird, but I’ll take it! LOL, sounds like a win! An old client who I haven't pet sat for in 2 years(one covid and two because of them crashing their boat and not needing me until they replaced it) got in touch with me last week. She wants me to pet sit every weekend I'm available because they can't take one of their dogs on the boat. Well i pet sat for her this weekend and while she is known to always pay me double what I charge, this weekend she she went way over that. Basically, she paid me $57/ half hour - hour to take care of her dogs. And I'm watching her dogs again this weekend. So, basically we'll be bringing in a significant amount of money this summer that wasn't expected at all. This will fund our next Universal studios trip once things are back to normal Congrats, that is very nice!
Soror
Must finish grocery list and menu TODAY- shopping this evening -stimulus still says unavailable -I should be getting paid any day and will have cash back from CC's in a few days- vaca fund to 70% here I come!!! -hoping I get a call back for a survey. I qualified but don't know if I'll be picked. It is for $125 and would be put towards vaca fund. This week bookings are slower due to holiday and I'm taking off a few days at the end of the month. I'm going to have to put in some Sundays unless I get some other money somewhere and I don't want to work Sundays. Maybe I can find a few things to sale around here. -need to deposit check from books at homeschool consignment shop- another $10.5- could put it towards vaca as I have money already allocated to hs....hmmm... -pay state taxes No call back on the survery, boo 😞 Awaiting giftcards from Crowdtap and from dh giving blood today. I might go give too. I was already thinking I should anyway, the money is just a bonus. Still waiting on my check and CC rewards. Mailed state taxes and deposited check. Making yogurt today. Finished grocery list and went shopping. Had ds pick me up some things. He went to the wrong store and overspent by 2-3 dollars. Silly boy is so annoying. Older 2 girls have Black Belt camp in June. If the cost is what it was for ds then I just need to budget an extra $10 from what I already have but I'm awaiting word on the exact cost. After the girls get their black belt they don't have to pay tuition and will not be doing any more testing which will be a help to the monthly budget.

historically accurate
We're hemorrhaging $ this week. Ugh. Got the invoice for a whole bunch of medical bills Paid for summer semester and the expensive textbook for that class Switched car insurance providers - we paid upfront for the 6 months as they had a big discount for doing so Bought a new phone as mine wouldn't run the insurance app to get the discount - my phone was ancient and I was constantly out of room DH went to Huntsville and back and those gas bills are showing up on the credit card Good things that happened. Dropped cable TV. DH upped our streaming channels, but we're still saving $ Saved a lot of $ by switching auto insurance I worked a little extra since it was the end of the fiscal year at work 3

Soror
I got paid today- Euro vaca '22 fund up to 70% Woot! Woot! Booked boat for this year's beach vaca. I don't think I need to book anything else. I already booked an AirBnB. We only have a couple of other things planned and I don't need reservations for those. The boat will be our BIG event. Got message from school that dd1 is having some Spring Fling at school and they will have food trucks for them to buy things. Need to adjust budget for some money for that but have a small slush fund every month for things that come up. Just checked budget and had some extra already put in the school category so that takes care of half of what I'd planned to give her. STILL waiting on provider to bill for appointments at end of March and April. I've budgeted for them based on past bills. I'd like to go ahead and just get them paid with and done. mommyoffive
We are not being really frugal here. Gave away a ton of furniture and toys. Will be doing that every week this month. Bought a ton of new furniture for the house. A lot of the stuff was hand me down things or things from 15 years ago that is worn out or broken. Paid this month's ballet tuition. It is just a little bit smaller than our mortgage. When we are in normal times it is more. 😞 But we are done with that school for the school year at least. One kiddo needed a new pass to their second school and then did an workshop over the weekend. Still thinking about selling our house. One house just went for sale and had an offer on in after the weekend. They are going to double their money since they bought their house after the downturn. But damn the houses are selling for so much. But there just isn't much on the market that we like. We are going to be booking a bunch of vacations for the summer. A bunch of ones around the state and then a road trip. I am so happy that hopefully by September or October all my kids can be vaccinated and we can get back to traveling internationally. They will all need renew passports. I am thinking I should have bought those Japan tickets that were $200. I didn't know the younger kids would be able to get a vaccine so fast.

Soror
Certainly not frugal for us either! I'm about to write the biggest check I've wrote since we rebuilt the house by a large margin. That's not even counting the vaca and new washer! Dh is getting some money from college, part of the stimulus bill. I'm going to use it for the termite guy that is coming tomorrow (for new pad and redoing the house). That will leave more in the shop fund which will need all the money it can get. The rest will top off the college fund. Dh is saying again that he doesn't think work will reimburse for this semester and I again stressed to him he needs to fight that and push. We used to fully homeschool and travel whenever we wanted to. I miss that. We can do school from anywhere now and they are awesome about letting us take a week off anytime we want, but with the older kids it is hard with the amount of work they have. Dh is always wanting me to just go on a trip to Japan on my own. But then he would have to take vacation to take care of the kids. Not really they could just hang in the house and school while he works, but I would feel bad for them. We have enough miles for a bunch of tickets there or anywhere. I am going to have to get back on the travel hacking wagon. It has been so long.

Maybe I am dreaming this now too, but I thought I heard something about concrete being in short supply. Is that true? I feel like everything is now in short supply. UGH. I thought concrete was kind of cheap compared to other things. More like in decks or something like that. Yeah that is really maddening about his HR. I hope he pushes it and that they concede because of the way that they handled it. It is so annoying when you ask and they give you bad info because they are not educated on what their job actually is. They should know what is going on.

IDK, our guy didn't say anything about the supply being low, just that they were really busy. OUr concrete costs are a lot more because we live on a hill and have to have stem walls- 5-6ft across the back. The estimate for materials for the shop is nearly the same as the concrete for the shop and materials are way up due to wood being up so much. We plan on building the rest ourselves so having the concrete done means we can get started whenever we have time and costs looks better. ITA about HR. I hope he fights it too. It makes me so mad.

Soror
Accounts reconciled this am. Waiting on CC rewards to drop today. Termite treatment for the pad today. They'll come later to estimate for the house. They are supposed to be pouring the pad today so hopefully I can pay and have that done. I think it might end up a little less than the estimate. A tiny rebounder one for me and then a indoor/outdoor medium sized one. They were easy to get then and not jacked up at all. Actually got really good prices on them. We gave ours away last year along with a ton of kids bikes. Guess we should have sold everything. I get so worked up at times and just want everything gone. we want a 15' or 17' one. 12' seems easy enough to find even though prices have doubled. I can find tons of brands that I've never heard of or have few to no reviews and I'm not willing to shell out that much money on something with few reviews

Yeah I always want something with some reviews even though reading reviews makes me crazy because some people always love it and some hate it.

Soror
Stimulus is coming next Wednesday! Concrete is done and paid for. $340 under the lowest price he quoted due to not needing as much rock for fill. Very pleased about that. He was going over the bill with me. I'm thinking I don't care, it's under bid, I don't need an explanation! Need to figure out how much we want in the shop fund. At the amount we'll have we could have easily did it even at last years prices. The bid at Menard's shows that we'd have just enough now and we can get some things cheaper elsewhere but that doesn't include scaffolding or equipment rental or other things that come up. It's not enough margin. I'm just not sure if we should say this is a good amount and wait for prices to drop or keep saving. Termite guy did the pad. They will be back next week for the house and I'll pay then for both. I think dh is going to take dd2 to find a swimsuit today and get some shorts. Ds is taking his car to be inspected. Soror
Quote May plans- a very spendy month! 1- buy washing machine (that just leaves the dishwasher since we had to do the hot water heater in Jan- my other appliances seem to have plenty of life left) 2- European Vaca '22 up to 70% 3-Small beach vaca at AirBnB-financed with income tax return 4-cash flow more medical bills 5-pay for concrete $$$$$$ for shop- likely we will not build this year as building materials are so increased right now (like 4x higher) but at least we'll get that step done 6-Finish buying summer clothes for family 7- inspection and tags for ds' car- this has already been set aside- just have to do it 7- HOPEFULLY get back tax refund and stimulus Getting things knocked out. I've got money set aside for vaca but until it's done we won't know the full cost. We should finish getting plates for ds' car today. Still waiting on a big chunk of medical bills to go through. Talked to dh. He is good with letting the shop fund sit where it is. It is not a nice even number though and that drives me crazy! Also, made plans for future savings and such. We want to get the medical and vehicle funds up more. He keeps adding onto our vaca next year and is talking about wanting more money than that. I told him I'm calling it done in August and then we can add more if we want. He wants to start putting some aside for my replacement vehicle with any extra funds of his. Hurray for the concrete! I can honestly say I have never heard of a project coming in under budget! 2. Your dh will take your dd shopping? And swimsuit shopping to boot? He is amazing, heehee. I've not had an issue with people I hire upping the cost on me after a bid but when we do a project it ALWAYS cost more. LOL. I guess he is a keeper. He needs to shop for some shorts for himself too it has been many years since he bought any and I think he only has one pair that are fit for out of the house. But I told him I just might take her myself because he needs to study as he is finishing up his semester. We'll see.
saraha
Dh and ds21 went to an auction this morning that was auctioning off new furniture from a closed store looking for furniture for ds21's apartment. Frugal for me because ds21 is paying, and I didn't go and see all the things I NEEEEEED, haha. I did remind them to sit on the couches if at all possible since they both are probably like get in, get something, get out. I probably should have gone, but then I would see things that I NEEEEED and auctions can be fun... they are big boys right? Surely they won't buy something uncomfortable? Right??? Ugh,now I wish I had gone.
historically accurate
We're still practically flinging money out the door here. It's been a rough $ week. Almost all has been covered by our savings, but our savings is looking really, really meager again. DH said his brakes felt a little squishy. Over $700 dollars later (and that's with a $50 off coupon), and they're safe again. *sigh* It's time to mulch the garden a little - the park is looking to raise their income with fines for "unkempt" yards, and ours is currently very unkempt. Gosh, I'd love to move to a real house, but moving just isn't in the budget, especially now with the crazy housing market. [as I'm typing, DH came back from running some errands and told me he bought 4 bags of mulch to start this project] It's getting hot here (well, not today, today is really cold), and middle DD was in need of another pair of compression shorts. I bought those on Amazon yesterday. Some things have a bit more time to be planned for: I went through and made a list of things College kid needs for school in the fall while we unpacked her. I'll have to get on it sometime, but honestly, there wasn't much she needed. We still need to figure out how to rid our yard of the stupid, destructive, but adorable, voles. I realized as soon as middle DD gets through Driver's Ed that we are currently saving for, it will be time to save for youngest who will be turning 15 in March 2022. It's always something, right? I am excited to be planning for these expenses instead of reacting as they come, but man, it really eats into the budget... I can't get school lunches this week due to my work hours, but I did see they're having a Farmer to Family box giveaway this week that I can get to. So, I put that on my calendar. I started a birthday list for me with things that need replacing or I just want and can't afford (eg: our comforter ripped last night - it's over 15 years old, the fabric just gave out). My mom is always asking me what I want or need, and I usually have no ideas - this year, I am prepared for her. I may have to call the insurance company as switching our auto insurance should've lowered our house insurance bill as they should be bundled. I don't see any discount on the house insurance side. I'm giving them until Tuesday in case it's just taking a while to process although they took my money for the auto insurance immediately. The refund from cancelling with our old company was in our account this morning - I was pleasantly surprised it was deposited that quickly. We have 3 doctor's appointments this upcoming week, and one of them is for testing that will fall under deductible rather than a co-pay, so I am not looking forward to that bill. I now have a staff library card - no fines for me!! My co-worker realized that the change hadn't been done on my account, and she took care of it for me. I listed a bunch of homeschool books on our local homeschool FB page, but only 1 program sold. Most people here use online or workbooks, but I was hoping to not have to ship. I'll need to get them listed for sale somewhere, especially as they are stacked up around DH's computer. He probably doesn't appreciate cuddling with math textbooks LOL. I also have a stack of capris my mom gave me, but don't fit me, that I may be able to sell.

That is awesome. Looks like you did great teaching him how to be frugal. What kind of auction is this? Just curious how you find out about something like that. I would totally love to buy furniture for that price. AMAZING!! What did your dh get? Edited May 8, 2021 by mommyoffive
saraha
I think some of it was returns, so open boxes etc, but not all of it, they had 20 brand new calf and foot massagers for example. It was advertised in our local paper For $280 dh bought at the auction: 10x10 pop up canopy 2 flat pack end tables (ds21 will get the ones we told him he could have or these, whichever ones my dh likes less) 4 boxes of Christmas lights 2 32 inch tvs (they were opened, he's hoping at least one will work) 1 flat pack desk (like the one ds got) 2 flat pack sets of shelving (from same lot ds got) 4 patio chairs (One had a leg that had damage, but not to make it unusable) 1 propane gas outdoor stove (he said I could use it for canning to not heat up the house or in an emergency if we have no electric) He spent $5 for a range hood to see if it will work to replace my old one. It might not, but he felt it was worth $5 to find out. The big winner- a brand new ping pong table that folds up into a case. The kids have been using it all afternoon! Its not a full size one, but the the fact that it folds up means it can be set up on the back deck and enjoyed. The one that made me 🤨 was a brand new WHITE couch he bought for $5. No one bid on it so he said $5 and they said sold! It has a tear on the back of the couch, but somewhere you wouldn't see if it was against the wall. I don't know what he was thinking or what we are going to do with it as right now it is on the back deck and it is supposed to rain tonight!!! He said if nothing else we could donate it, but we have to put it somewhere tonight!
