SKL Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 So you're not supposed to get the vax if you might have Covid. What do you do if you aren't sure? You don't have symptoms to speak of, but you might have been exposed? Suppose this happens halfway between shot 1 and shot 2? This can't be an unusual situation, right? Quote
Catwoman Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 (edited) I think you should get tested to see if you have it. Given that you’re only halfway between shot one and shot two, you would even have time to get tested more than once if the first test came back negative (just to give you added confidence that you don’t have Covid, before you go for your second shot.) I hope you don’t have it!!! Edited April 22, 2021 by Catwoman Typo 1 Quote
SounderChick Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 Well we were told to go ahead and get our second shot on time or unless our quarantine wasn't over. DH tested positive between the two. We got our second shot about a week late. Quote
SKL Posted April 22, 2021 Author Posted April 22, 2021 So how long is it OK to wait to get the 2nd shot if you've been exposed to Covid? I was told the shot had to be done 21-26 days after the first one. I read somewhere - I think CDC site - that you can still get it later but they aren't sure how effective that will be. Quote
Syllieann Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 (edited) I think it is up to 6 weeks for either kind that they consider acceptable. Eta: yes, 6 weeks, here it is. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/second-shot.html Edited April 22, 2021 by Syllieann 1 Quote

Can you call your doctor for advice? It really seems like it would be worth getting tested for Covid. How many days ago were you exposed? I have read that you shouldn’t get tested too quickly after exposure, because you might get a false negative. Edited April 22, 2021 by Catwoman I can’t type and I need to learn to proofread! Quote
BeachGal Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 @SKL CVS now carries 3 Covid tests that you can buy and administer yourself. If you're positive, you could ask a doctor or pharmacist what they would advise. https://cvshealth.com/news-and-insights/press-releases/over-the-counter-covid-19-testing-now-available-at-cvs-pharmacy The span between vaccines was designed to be the shortest possible so that people would quickly be fully vaccinated; however, a longer span should be okay, too. I’m not 100% sure how long the span can be stretched, though. Quote
catz Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 We know 2 people who had this situation. They both recovered well and got their second vax late. Quote
