NewnameC Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 The hive knows everything, so I thought I would ask here. I own a piece of property near a road that will be widened soon. It has been planned for a long time, and I have been receiving letters from attorneys for years wanting to represent me in the matter. The final plan was recently announced and my property will not be impacted very much. The state only needs a tiny easement on my property, but I still receive letters/emails from attorneys. Do I need an attorney for something like this? The entire property is not expensive, and the easement is less than a square yard. Thanks. Quote
NewnameC Posted April 21, 2021 Author Posted April 21, 2021 No, I’m not planning on suing. I changed my post before submitting it, and I accidentally deleted a key part. I will be receiving money from the state for this little of my property that it needs for the new road. My question is do I need an attorney to receive a “fair” amount for use of this small amount of property. Based on the solicitations I have received, it seems odd to not contact one. However, I just can’t imagine it is worth the time/expense for such a small piece of land. Quote
Jaybee Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 I'm not up on the legal stuff, but I would just receive the money and would not consult a lawyer. I would consider the wider road a benefit that I was willing to sacrifice a bit for, if, indeed, I was not "quite" getting enough money per property. That's just me, though. 2 Quote
Scarlett Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 That is not something I would get an attorney for. 1 Quote
