gardenmom5 Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 (edited) I'm going to go ahead and get precheck. I've filled out all the stuff online and am ready to go to my local staples that will set it up. I have a US passport, and my birth certificate. but We can't find our marriage certificate - supposedly TSA needs it for proof of name change. - but I have a US passport with my married name, and I had to have used it to obtain the passport! (and you have to be a citizen to get a passport) I have printed off copies of the two versions of our marriage certificate from the digital archives of the state in which we were married. . . yes, I know it's not certified. (I could bring up the state webpage with them in just a few minutes.) thoughts if this is a deal killer? UPDATE: my passport has been expired for more than 12 months (deal killer) . . . . so, we're going to renew our passports, and then we can also get the "real ID" (which supposedly becomes mandatory to fly without a passport in Oct 2021.) the good news is - dh and I can renew our passports online/mail. don't have to actually go in. (costco does passport photos. fast and cheap.) dudeling will have to go in. at least now he's 16, he will only ever have to renew it and never deal with this hassle again. Because he's under 18 -he can still go to a "passport acceptance" location that only takes children. They have significantly less traffic. (yes - they are out there.) No certified marriage certificate proving name change . . . deal killer. (it's somewhere, we've used it! can't find it.) As soon as I have my new passport - I can go get the TSA precheck and I can use it when I go to Texas in Aug/Sep. If I feel like crap (like I have for the last week) when I fly in two weeks - I'm going to ask for a wheelchair when I check-in online (so they know and don't have to track someone down.). that bypasses all the standing in line anyway. (standing, or too much physical exertion triggers increasing physical pain and nausea. and my "not-a-seizure" things). I would rather feel well enough to walk. (I'm trying some new things, that may be helping. I don't want to jinx it by saying they are.) Edited April 16, 2021 by gardenmom5 Quote
Pam in CT Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 I think an existing passport with your married name along with a digital copy should be sufficient. We all went through it ages ago. I actually never changed my name so that *particular* issue didn't come up, but we had various other small issues -- travel to Cuba which was at that time subject to restrictions, several land border crossings that made electronic checking a bit cumbersome, etc -- and with careful / calm explanations we all got through. 1 Quote
Corraleno Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 I don't remember having to provide a marriage certificate for TSA precheck, or even for Global Entry. I had to show it to get the first passport with the name change, but once I had the passport I think that's all I've ever had to show. 1 Quote
katilac Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Do you have a driver's license or state ID? As long as you have that, and your entire name matches on that and the passport, you are fine. 1 Quote

I thought it odd they were saying both passport and proof of name change to go with a birth certificate. 3 hours ago, katilac said: Do you have a driver's license or state ID? We just celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary. 1 Quote
