Our City Council is doing something really dumb. At least, one in particular. We got a new City Administrator right before the pandemic. Super nice woman who is trying to grow our City responsibly, not just housing developments as the prior administrator. One of the council members was trying to get his friend hired, but the city staff all disliked him. The city staff really like the new administrator as do many small businesses.

The council member whose buddy didn't bget hired has brought forth a resolution to fire her without cause.

The meeting is going on now.

It's good that she kept her job.  Was the vote public?  It might encourage her to know how many on the council voted to retain her.  For that matter, it might encourage her to hear from constituents who support her.  Public service isn't for the faint at heart.

There was no vote. When it came time to put forth the motion on the proposal to fire her, no one on the council spoke. It died.

I sent her a note asking her to stay, to not let their intimidation tactics force her out.

What a waste of resources this whole things was. They had to pay the attorney to write up the proposal, paid her to be at the meeting. Wasted police time...

Well, at least I know who is not getting my vote when elections come around again.

Local politics... The sad part is that when people don't pay attention sometimes things like that do get passed. And people don't pay attention to their city councils enough.

Oh, this sounds like our city council last year.  We had three trouble makers.

One of the three got impeached (or whatever you call it when it’s a local council person) and the person who began the impeachment process and collected signatures ran and won his vacated place on the council.  😆😆😆

One of the others sold his house in the past few weeks and is no longer eligible.  🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽  He’s also a guy that my neighbor said staged a kidnapping to try to teach a mom a lesson one time. 😱

That only leaves one bad egg, who’s filed an ethics complaint against my personal city council rep and it went nowhere.   She has no one to vote with her now if she does something crazy-stupid, which she will, I’m sure.

local politics is a crazy sh*tshow, sometimes.

I'm glad it worked out the way you hoped it would, it stinks to have to go through the process though and waste time and money on something so frivolous.

My city council is, IMO, corrupt. 3 of the 5 members are related to each other, this is a city with over 200,000 people. One of those 3 members was recalled once and ran again the next election and was voted back in (that's the fault of the voters). They are backed every election by a huge real estate developer so have tons of money to run a campaign, their competition always ends up splitting the vote and they end up being reelected.

We also had a former council member sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for bribery.
