WildflowerMom Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 (edited) I’m supposed to get my second (pfizer) vax today. Since Thursday, I’ve had a spot that is sore in my throat, just that spot. Now my ear on that side is bothering me. No fever. I know this is allergy related. Is it ok to go ahead with my vaccine tomorrow? I really want to get it over with. I had no reaction at all (except injection site tenderness) with the first vax. Edited April 13, 2021 by WildflowerMom Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I would say to go ahead. (You might want to do a salt water gargle too. That will lessen any swelling - including the Eustachian tube.) 3 2 Quote
ktgrok Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 My allergies were acting up for my first vaccine. I took my normal meds (antihistamine the night before, steroid nose spray). DS21 was also taking mucinex on top of the antihistamine/nose spray. 1 Quote
TheReader Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I think it's fine; I had the same thing, got my shot, no adverse reaction relating to that at all (it's still lingering, the sore spot, but I'm so glad to hear you say you're having the same exact thing b/c I have been certain mine was allergy related, also, but was starting to second guess. I shouldn't, b/c oak pollen is nutso at the moment, but....) Also, thanks @Jean in Newcastle for the salt water suggestion! Hadn't even thought to try that. Duh. 2 Quote

Here in Florida I think the worst is past...still happening, but I'm getting less out of my pool filter the last two times I cleaned it (was probably a gallon bag worth of pollen at the worst!). And I skipped my meds a few times and felt yucky, but not like I was going to die, so yeah.....worst is over maybe here. Still grasses pollinating, and tons of wild flowers (my neighbors are not great about lawn care so my street is mostly weeds right now). Definitely salt water gargle - and take your allergy meds. With the ear painful too I'd take mucinex and a decongestant as well if you tolerate them. I don't always need mucinex but if my ear is clogged/painful it helps, and my son really has to take it or he ends up with a sinus infection. 1 1 Quote

Yes, I always forget, and them I'm all "what the heck????" and about a week into it my mind catches up and remembers what's going on, LOL! I don't think I'll need the mucinex, but yes to the decongestant and the allergy stuff. Duh. It's ridiculous how clueless I get about this, every dang year. I've only lived here my whole entire life (minus the 6 yrs in Brazil).....you would think it wouldn't sneak up on me, LOL! 1 Quote
WildflowerMom Posted April 13, 2021 Author Posted April 13, 2021 I went! So glad I’m vaxxed now! 🙌🏽 I am at home now waiting to see if I have side effects... thanks for the quick replies! 💛💛💛 8 1 Quote

Get sinus headache, feel cruddy for a few days, walk outside, see van covered in pollen and "duh!, that's why I feel like this!" EVERY year. 1 Quote
EKS Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 My husband gets the one sore spot in the throat thing just like you are describing. Have you looked in there? When he gets it, there is always a white thing right where it's sore which--and if this is gross, I apologize--is actually some sort of substance that is plugging a duct (I think). He uses a special extra long q-tip to extract it and feels better almost immediately. Anyway, congratulations on your vaccination! Quote

WildflowerMom Posted April 13, 2021 Author Posted April 13, 2021 I don’t have tonsils anymore, so probably not that. Dh said it’s just red. It’s probably time for me to see an ENT. I’ve had ear problems off and on for a year now anyway. Quote
Garga Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Burning question: How is someone named Wildflower allergic to pollen!?!? 😝 2 Quote
