Does anyone else have this problem?  If I log in on my phone or computer, if I am not signed in then it is several hours if not days old.  I really do not like being signed in on my phone.  I like to be able to read without signing in. Does anyone know what is going on?

What do you mean by correctly?  There are some options for how the site looks tied to your account.  Also I believe there are ads when you aren't signed in.

No, I mean like posts are not there. So for instance. I am logged into this forum in incognito mode right now and this post does not show up at all.  The thread at the top of the forum is something from the vaccine thread which says posted 9 minutes ago. However, when signed in there are tons of things above that and of course this post, which doesn't exist unless I am signed in.

Oh, not the behavior part. The immunity part. You said “possible that human behavior/built up immunity to previous variants is currently increasing rates of transmission for one variant ”

I think I misunderstood what you said, though. I thought you were trying to say that the reason it was spreading was because of something to do with immunity or lack thereof from prior dominant variants.

I think it's pretty commonly accepted that new variants get an advantage from increased immunity to older variants.

What?
I wouldn’t call what is happening in any posts I have seen here “probing the data”, if that’s what you mean, but sure, we all can do that on our own.

And why wouldn't you call it that? People are linking papers and talking about details.

As to tension, I don’t see the scientists vs. people on this board as the ones in tension, lol. The board is fun and all, but ultimately who cares what anyone on this board thinks about the science, right? 😉

I think a decent number of people on here have scientific training, in fact. Not so much that we're virologists, but definitely much more than the average person. For instance, I feel relatively competent to comment on statistics. If it helps you take me more seriously, my husband agrees with me on basically all the stats, and he is ALSO a professor at Columbia, where one of his specialties is statistics as applied to medicine. (I'm a probabilist with a PhD myself, of course, even if I no longer do it professionally.)

I've noticed this before - it is not new to me. When I'm not signed in, the site is not as up to date. I don't find it surprising though I don't know the reason for it. I think I've experienced that at other sites too, though I can't think of any in particular right now.

Well, I hate it.

I don’t understand why you don’t want to be signed in? If you want up to date that is the way it is set up. By the owner. For free.

It hasn’t always been that way. It is a change.  I dont want to have easy access to post.  I used to read much more than I post.  It made me wait to respond which is good for me.  But I want to see up to date info.

Me too.  I am finding the same thing.  I don't like to stay logged in (and don't stay logged in).  This is definitely new over the last week or so maybe?

It’s been that way for quite a while. At least since ... was it last Dec?  2019?  When we had to change passwords and stuff? I noticed it then, but rarely read unless logged in.

I am confused, because I thought you were new-ish here?  Just joined in Sep 2020?  But I don’t keep up with all the username changes, so maybe you are one of the different incarnations that appear here and there.  🤣 If so ... welcome back!  For those of us who don’t pay attention to who’s changing usernames, it’s a bit disconcerting.  Oops.

If you are trying make it harder on yourself wrt posting, maybe reading with a lag in time is helpful?  If it’s a privacy thing, I think there’s an option for that somewhere.

I recognized her almost immediately.  I often times can’t.  Maybe I have been around too long now.

It just doesn’t occur to me, usually.  So funny.  I’m here with the same name, despite some embarrassing moments that happened and having put my foot in it a few times here.  Sometimes I’d love to reinvent myself, too.  🤣

I am relatively new, a member about a year. I joined last spring when I was considering ( and decided to) homeschool my 17yo this 20-21 school year. My one year homeschool experiment has not worked out very well.  I posted some, but mainly lurked for a long time. Maybe that is why I didn't notice the lag. If I hadn't posted, I would not have realized it.  So maybe that is it, but I could swear it wasn't like this last spring.

Ok...hmm.....maybe it is not who I thought.

It's been that way for me for a while.  I can't say how long but definitely longer than a week or so.

I sometimes like to check on a quick break when I am working, but I don't log in on my work computer.  If I'm checking on a thread that I've posted in it's obvious, because a post I sent 4 hours ago will say it's 20 minutes old.

Oh no, I’m so sorry your homeschool experiment didn’t go well!  I hope whatever you do next year works out better for your family.

I can never tell who new posters are/were, so if you even had a guess about one you’re ahead of me!

I would be shocked if I was wrong.

I used to be like you... but one day.....the voices just started to be so obvious there was no other answer.

Ha, I have shared so much of my life if I tried to reinvent myself so that no one could recognize me, I would have nothing to talk about.

Sometimes it takes a certain type of thread before it becomes clearer who someone is/was.   General chit-chat doesn't always do it but sometimes they can't resist the threads of a type that probably led them to leaving in the first place.  (I'm sure that sentence is not even remotely grammatically correct but hopefully it makes sense).

If I avoided talking about what I do every day and my kids special needs, I might be hard to tell although my rambling (with way too many parenthesis) style would probably give it away.

It's just been all-over wonky since the transition.  I've been told to "just clear your cookies" or whatever, but it doesn't fix the lags, weirdness, or frequent outages.  It won't even LET me log in on my phone; just the computer.

If anyone still doesn’t realize who I am, just pm me.  I did make a post explaining and told everyone my old name, but I deleted it because several people here thought it best.  But I’m an open book, so just pm and I’ll tell you if you haven’t figured it out and missed my thread on my new name.

I've been noticing this same thing for many, many, many months. It seems to last for a day or two, then it's back to normal for a month or so, then the lag is back. Sometimes, posts are a few hours behind and sometimes it's several days.

I don't stay logged in to any site and never have. I rarely post anywhere, so I don't see the need for it.
