Ginevra Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 What finishes this sentence for you? Today, it’s masking tape. I don’t know where they go, but *every* time I need masking tape, there aren’t any rolls to be found. Close runner up is small post-it’s or stickie tabs. There usually are some in the house, just not where I happen to be when I need one. 🙄 1 Quote

mathnerd Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I put all the masking tape, insulation tape, gorilla tape and every single tape that I had into one gallon ziplock bag and kept it in my garage. Now it is always there because the folks in my house don't bother to go to the garage to search for anything. I suggest that you find a place where your family does not like to look for things and put it there! 2 2 Quote

RootAnn Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Scissors. Used to be rulers, mechanical pencils, and scotch tape. I just kept buying more. Then started threatening people with fines for finding these items in their room. Then, I hid some. The only thing that worked was the kids getting older. I'm still missing a lot of my scissors... 2 3 Quote

Katy Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I think I have the opposite problem. I’ve bought enough duplicates of everything that I don’t have that happen anymore except when I forget to add something to the grocery order. Sometimes DH uses MY tools because they’re in the tool bag in the laundry room where I can find them (instead of in the mess of a garage where I can’t, despite pegboards & tool chests), but I’ve only had to ask him where something was twice. I have masking tape in the utility drawer in the kitchen, in the tape drawer of my craft cabinet, and DH has some on a hook in the garage & some in the basement on a hook in the storage room. My goal this year has been decluttering and I’m making progress. I still have way too much stuff in my bedroom and the basement. It’s still far from my mom’s standard of decluttered to the point that every cabinet is organized and it’s easy to clean to company ready in less than 2 hours though. Then again our house is twice as big. Maybe I need to drop the 2 hour goal. 2 Quote
Katy Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 If you have a place to put this, it’s excellent to stash the stuff you need to keep away from family members. The smaller drawers are just the right size for copy paper, so it might be helpful for homeschooling too. I just printed out labels using OpenOffice and now I have drawers for almost all the random stuff that’s hard to find. https://www.hobbylobby.com/Home-Decor-Frames/Furniture/Cabinets/Black-Metal-Cabinet/p/80962956 1 Quote
Shoeless Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Hair elastics. Chapstick. I will periodically do a round-up of these items and find, like, 100 of them. Then 2 weeks later, all gone! At work, it was 30cc syringes. They were never, ever, ever where they were supposed to be. 3 1 Quote
scbusf Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Scissors. Any time I need some, I can't find any. But when I don't need them, it's like "Why are there scissors under the dining room table?" 2 2 Quote

klmama Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Scissors. I know we have six pairs of full-size scissors here somewhere, because I strategically placed them in the high-use areas of the house. On a good day I can still find one of them, but not if someone is in the midst of a project. 3 Quote
Dmmetler Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Scissors, 3 hole punch (we have at least four, for a household of 3 people), scotch tape, post-it tape flags (I use these a lot when teaching, both to mark music and, when teaching online, to make specific keys on my piano more visible on the overhead camera, like when showing young kids where to put their hands, so it is extremely frustrating when they move). In my studio, it's always magnets and dice for games (I do a lot of piano games at the piano on a magnetic sheet, so we use magnets as game markers most of the time)-and no one teaches in that room but me!!! 1 Quote

Ausmumof3 Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 (edited) Can’t believe for so many of us it’s scissors. What is it about scissors? A LOT of things that both my kids swore they didn't move are never missing now that they're grown. A friend of mine lives with a very tall husband and two very tall sons. She puts stuff on low shelves because they won't bend over to get stuff. 😆 I've been known to hide chocolate in an empty box for freezer veggies. Nobody but me will ever use a vegetable from the freezer. 1 4 Quote

Carrie12345 Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Glue. Ive trained myself to buy and hide some things over the years (particularly tape), but glue is the one thing I haven’t conquered. And then there’s the fact that I know we owned at least 6 protractors at one point, and there are none to be found. The dollar store wasn’t even able to rescue me this week. 2 Quote
MEmama Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Phone/electronics chargers. I got so fed up with never being able to find one, I made up a super secret travel container with a charger, my battery pack (it’s pink! It’s MINE!) and a cord. Needing a charger recently, I was dismayed to find it had been ransacked and the charger gone missing. 🤬 Also, basic tools. I keep a hammer, a couple different types and sizes of screwdrivers and a tape measure in a kitchen desk drawer. I’m the one who mainly uses tools, yet whenever I need one they are nowhere to be found—or at least nowhere sensible. The top of the bedroom dresser, next to the front door or out in the shed don’t count, since the person who left them there (not me) has no idea where they left them either. I keep meaning to buy myself a pink tool set that no one else is allowed to touch. 1 1 Quote
