Would you all please help me with a playlist? I am looking for songs that immediately make you think of the movie the song is featured in. For example:

You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling (Top Gun)

Unchained Melody (Ghost)

Don’t You Forget About Me (Breakfast Club)

Say a Little Prayer (My Best Friend’s Wedding)

You get the idea! All suggestions appreciated, but especially more upbeat  songs from 1980’s - 90’s era films.

We Are Not Alone (Breakfast Club)

The Time of My Life (Dirty Dancing)

So many great songs...have you done an on-line search for best 80s/90s movie songs?

Not yet. I started to but thought it might make for a fun thread!

Many great ones already named! I would add:

What a Feeling (or Maniac) from Flashdance

Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (does anyone except me even remember Mannequin???)

Invincible from The Legend of Billie Jean

Axel F from Beverly Hills Cop

St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)--even though I never saw the movie, it still makes me think of it!

Eye of the Tiger--Rocky

It Must Have Been Love--Pretty Woman (I just heard this on the radio, but it's not exactly upbeat!)

My first serious boyfriend and I didn't have a song, we had a soundtrack--the Top Gun soundtrack! 🙂

Trying to push myself into the 90's. What was that Winona Ryder movie in which she said she couldn't define irony, but she knew it when she saw it? (Found it! Reality Bites.) The song: Stay by Lisa Loeb (who wrote some very nice children's songs later...)

I Don't Want to Miss a Thing--that space movie with Bruce Willis 🙂

All the 80s ones listed in this thread, plus:

Fame - from the movie of the same name

9 to 5 - same

When Dove's Cry - Purple Rain

The Heat is On - Beverly Hills Cop

Into the Groove - Desperately Seeking Susan

I can't think of 90s movie songs without looking them up, other than the few already mentioned.

Do they have to be 80s and 90s movies?

”As Time Goes By” - Casablanca
”Cavatina” - Theme from The Deer Hunter
M*A*S*H* - same
Pink Panther Theme
“Stayin’ Alive” - Saturday Night Fever
”Over the Rainbow” - Wizard of Oz
”Favorite Things” - The Sound of Music
”Singin’ in the Rain” - same

”Moon River” - Breakfast at Tiffany’s
”Mrs. Robinson” - The Graduate

EDIT: OOPS! Re-read request.  You wrote 80s and 90s.  Mea Culpa!  A few of the ones I listed are upbeat at least!

What about something from the Grease soundtrack?

Cocktail soundtrack

Cocktail is the Tom Cruise bartender movie. At our house it’s known as the movie that mom and dad saw on their first date.

I'm a Believer-Shrek

I wanna move it!-Madagascar

Pretty much all Disney movies have a pop crossover song that gets a lot of radio play, even if the movie is not a musical.

One Way Love (Better Off Dead) or Arrested by You or Like to Get to Know You Well--Better Off Dead

Man, that was a weird movie. "I want my two dollars!!!"

I ❤️ John Cusack.

I remember very little about this movie (like, I can never remember its title), but I quote that line sooooo often.

"I want my two dollars!"

Maybe it resonated with me because I had to collect for my paper route for so many years and people did the weirdest things so they wouldn't have to pay. Like insist they couldn't pay because their husband had the checkbook ... in the shower.

This thread is great!! I have a fantastic playlist going now of so many songs I forgot! What happened to this genre of movies of the 80’s/90’s....so many good movies. I really feel like my teens have missed out not having these types of movies anymore.
