DawnM Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 UGH. I loved these chairs in my sunroom. They are so comfortable. But our new puppy chewed the bottoms of them and he has ripped up the bottom skirt part of the chairs and they don't look good at all. He is a year now and hasn't chewed them in several months. I feel it is time to replace them, but I am not sure what to replace them with. It is a 10x13 room with glass along both long walls, but there is a door on each short end....one for the entrance to the house and the other to the outside. I am thinking of replacing the two large comfy chairs with a loveseat and two chairs in rattan or patio style (metal is an option). What do you think? I am going to attach a picture, although this doesn't really show the layout well. That bench is no longer there, but you can see there is room for one. Or would you replace the chairs with new comfy chairs like these? Quote
Katy Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 I prefer chairs because I don’t like to block windows. And because your room reminds me of a room in my favorite library. I’d add bookshelves (no really valuable books though, so the light doesn’t damage them) and make it a reading room. I always prefer a comfy chair for reading too. 1 Quote
PeterPan Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 (edited) Since the room is so open, you can take pics, measurements, and just go butt test and fall in love with something! Looks like you have plenty of room to have the chairs *and* something nice for napping on, maybe also a coffee table. My mother has some sunroom furniture that is on gliders. Hers is that rattan with cushions thing, but either way (rattan or upholstered) you would have some options and new features. I was just in a Lazyboy showroom and saw these chairs with low side arms. Some of the new styles are glumpy, but you might find something really cute you like. If the issue is just how they look and this is a really casual room, what about just throwing slip covers on them? About the time you put in something with legs, he'll start lifting his leg and pee on them anyway, lol. Even my dog who NEVER does this inside gets out on my deck and sees our table out there and lifts. PS. That room needs plants. Edited March 15, 2021 by PeterPan 2 Quote
Annie G Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Is reupholstering them an option? We’ve done that before and though it’s not cheap, it’s great because you already know you like how they sit and all. How is the room used? Is it mostly your spot or do you guys gather there? 2 Quote

Pic was taken for staging and no one lived in the house at the time, although someone owned it. It has lots of plants now. The dog, thankfully, doesn't pee on them or lift his leg in the house. No room for a coffee table, unless it is in-between the chairs, nothing in the middle as it is a pass-through. No slipcovers, I can't express how much I hate those things. The cushions on these chairs slip easily, and re-positioning everything every time would make me want to never use them. I am always wondering how people use those things......everyone I know who has had them is constantly re-tucking or re-working them after every sit. 1 Quote

Since it’s mostly the adults, I’d probably go together and find something super comfy. I asked because if it’s a rarely used space and just needs something to keep it from being empty, my focus would be different. Something inexpensive that looks ok but doesn’t have to be that comfy. I’m shocked at how uncomfortable much of the furniture in a showroom seems to be. Maybe because I’m short and I don’t want my legs dangling or the backs of chairs to be angled so I can’t read a book. 2 Quote

I am right there with you on the comfort.....and after I started this thread realized most patio type furniture has uncomfortable arms, and I like to lean on the arms and stick my legs up over the other arm, so I think you are right, I should go for comfort. One thing about these chairs is that they are a fabric that is water resistant. I don't even know what material it is, but it is great since the back door goes straight out to the pool. 1 Quote

When our kids were little we’d spray Scotchguard on furniture to help w spills. We tried it a last year and it’s definitely not the same stuff we used in the 90’s. Pretty disappointed. Hope you find something you love. 1 Quote
Katy Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 I haven’t ordered anything yet, but we’re seriously considering ordering some furniture from Wayfair. They have a custom line that’s made in North Carolina, at far lower prices than anything else I’ve found made in the USA. You can order it in Sunbrella fabric, delivery in about 12 weeks. On at least one of the fabric descriptions I read you can clean it using the upholstery head of a carpet shampooer. While I doubt the navy sectional I was considering for our family room would work, I bet they have something you might like that would be perfect for a sunroom facing a pool. 1 Quote

matrips Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Two people would rather sit on two comfy chairs to chat and hang out together than squished on a loveseat. Our chairs are always taken before our couch outside. Or maybe we just like our own space here 🙂 Quote
