athena1277 Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Our house has lots of windows in the back, but no coverings at all. As I mentioned in a previous thread, the farm field behind us is being developed into townhouses. We have to get something for privacy, but dh wants curtains and I wanted blinds. I saw the Grabar window coverings in the Costco ad and they look like a perfect compromise between what we each want. if you scroll down in the link to where it says “visualize you new look,” that’s what our windows are like, but without the small gap in between. So if you have these or considered them, what do I need to know? Are they expensive? Do they hold up a long time? Do they give enough privacy? https://www.costco.com/graber-custom-window-treatments.html Quote
cjzimmer1 Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 (edited) I'm not sure what type of window covering you are referring to as there were several types on that page. But generally custom window coverings aren't the cheapest thing in the world but sometimes it's still the best choice. I've got custom Roman shades in 7 windows of the house now. They've replaced a variety of different types (roller shades, curtain, blinds) and I'm much happier in every instance. I've only had the oldest ones about 2 years now so I can't say how they'll hope up long term but so far so good. To other brands to look for are Bali and Levelor. You can request free color samples to be sent to your house from both of those. Graber might too I just haven't worked with them. Also many of them have choices if you just want light filtering or room darkening. Some of them you can even have a black out backing put on it. Edited March 5, 2021 by cjzimmer1 1 Quote
Spryte Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 We have custom shades, but not Grabar (company depends on the room - but we’ve been happy with all of them). We did have one that we sent back to the company to be re-strung, after an incident with a broken string, but you may not have strings, so ... possibly not applicable. Which style are you considering? Ours open from top or bottom, which I think is nice for privacy. Ours are the cellular kind for energy efficiency. There are so many choices! We have one more room to do, and now you have me looking at Costco for our final room. Quote
Katy Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 We have cellular shades, under blackout curtains, which have a bit of insulating effect. Maybe too much because some of the windows got mildew over the winter. I most prefer plantation shutters, but it would be prohibitively expensive to buy them for each place we move, since we typically stay in a place about 3 years. Quote
