We're doing custom cabinets in the bathroom and while we could order a handicap accessible sink - we think we'd prefer the picture of the attached.
So we need to order the counter but I'm wondering about considerations of surfaces.  Solid surface? I'm not interested in granite, would consider quartz.  Thoughts?

I like quartz-- so easy to care for and looks good for YEARS-- 18 years old and still looked NEW!

We has Silestone in our last house and really really miss it (granite in new house and too much of it to replace!)

Quartz has a very good reputation as a counter surface.  Solid, durable, impervious to things that spill on it.  Comes in lots of colors.

We put in quartz in one of bathrooms.  It's been almost 2 years.  I don't have any regrets.  It's been very easy to clean and I appreciate that there is enough pattern so every single dust speck and stray hair doesn't show.

Quartz is great!   Whatever, you choose, avoid marble/engineered marble - it etches easily from acidic products unless really well sealed, and you don't  know the sealant is failing until... it etches.

If you do decide on quartz, don't forget to check the remnants sections (I don't know if big box stores have these but the local places all do around here).  Since bathrooms counters are smaller, you can often find a remnant and save a lot of money over buying a full slab.  When we did ours 2 years ago, the remnant was $700 installed.  A new piece was estimated to be about $2000 (because you have to buy a full slab whether or not you use it all).  We had also priced out the fake marble stuff from Home Depot thinking it would be the cheapest option and while it was ($550), the difference between it and the quartz wasn't nearly as much as expected.

Fwiw I think the surface in that picture might be synthetic marble. It's a very nice, low upkeep surface. I do not care for it in sinks, but you seen in the picture an undermounted porcelain bowl. So talk with your builder, as that could be natural marble too. But synthetic isn't bad and it's very affordable. I chose it in our bath because I liked the look and low upkeep. Just choose the pattern carefully so it doesn't look too 80s, lol.
