*Note* I'm not counting today since it's basically over in my time zone.

Our oldest grandson will be 9 on Sunday. One year ago we were celebrating a big day. He's a Leap Day baby so last year he turned 8 on his 2nd actual birthday. He had a big party at a skating rink complete with a rented room for the cake and presents. All the Florida cousins, aunts, and uncles were there along with both sets of grandparents and several school friends. The fact that it was at a skating rink on a Saturday also meant it was packed with the general public too. That was the last public event any of us attended. Three days later I met with my book club and that was the last time I ate in a restaurant.

And now we've come full circle. It's a full year later. While I've seen the calendar like everyone else, those two memories have really brought home just how long we've been doing this.

That is all.

I know the feeling. It's coming up on my March birthdays. Last year we had ds birthday and then had a combined March party and were planning on dd birthday outing and then covid. It's a strange feeling.

Last year DD had her friends over for a D&D party for her birthday and we held DS's Eagle Court of Honor on leap day.

One of the funnier (in a sad way) things DD brought up.  She is on her college debate team and one of the resolutions last year in the tournament was on the Covid outbreak.  This was early on and she argued that it was not going to be a big deal, and she won the round.  Now she kind of cringes when she thinks about how big it really has become.

On March 2 it will be a year since I last saw my Oldest son. We met up with him and DIL in Santa Fe for the weekend. They left for the UK in August. We were supposed to see them at Christmas. I regret deeply that I didnt just drive down and see them while they were stuck in OK before their PCS...

We were just talking about this last night. A year ago, we were preparing to go to a big event and the next day was DS's birthday. The event was cancelled and my other DS fit in one more activity before everything was shut down. At the time we thought it would just be for a few weeks and here we are almost a year later still crossing things off the calendar.

We were all so naive just a year ago weren't we?

That reminds me of something I read the other day, possibly on NPR??  They wanted people to send in the last picture they took on their smart phone before the first lockdown, as well as the first picture they took after the lockdown started.

And yes, so naive...  but not just about the pandemic.  So many things happened this past year that rocked our world as we knew it.

Yes! I remember thinking we would be back to normal by summer and I wondered how on earth we'd stay home for a couple months.

How funny you would say that. I never took pics on my phone before the pandemic because my camera is better quality. I only started using my phone to send pics to family.

Dd13 and dd10 have now been home for exactly 350 days.   Dd16 has only been out twice in that time; dd14 has monthly orthodontist appointments.

They have done really well with staying isolated.  Dh has been working from home, so we only go out for groceries, a few odd and ends (mostly for projects around the house), and a few select doctor's appointments.

I was hopeful at the beginning that this would be over by the end of summer, but when things opened back up in June before the numbers were down, I was pretty sure that it was going to be at least a year until things got back to normalish.
