mom31257 Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 We usually decorate our Christmas tree the weekend of Thanksgiving. That's normally a busy week for us with travel, meals in more than one place sometimes, etc. I always had hot chocolate from a mix and store bought cookie dough cookies while we decorated. I used to feel guilty that I didn't go more all out to make them from scratch. I don't anymore. Dd is a nurse and couldn't come home for Thanksgiving with her work schedule. At Christmas she was caring for Covid patients. It was so hard not seeing her this first Christmas living almost 3 hours away on her own. She got both vaccines and has been back on her regular floor, so she finally came home for Christmas this past weekend. She took it upon herself to buy hot chocolate packets and cookie dough to make sure we had them since she missed our tree decorating. She said it would feel more like Christmas (we did leave our decorations up since our tree is artificial). When I pulled out our CocoMotion (hot chocolate maker), she was so glad to see it. Those easy, store-bought traditions won't be forgotten. They will be just as meaningful. 20 2 Quote
mommyoffive Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Aww, what a great story and a good reminder. My kids have brought up so many memories of things that I had no idea they remembered or was important to them. So glad that she got her vaccine and that she got to celebrate with you. 4 Quote
Kassia Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Wonderful story! Thank you for sharing. I've also discovered that my kids are really attached to some traditions that I thought were no big deal to them. 2 Quote
Ditto Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 I'm happy she was finally able to come home. Enjoy celebrating! It is always interesting what our children remember and what is special to them. This is a great reminder that it isn't necessarily the grand things we do that mean the most to them. 1 Quote
marbel Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 That's a sweet story. There is nothing wrong with "store-bought" traditions! 1 Quote
