Trilliumlady Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 DD is in CLE 7 this year, looking to CLE 8 next year. They do allow calculator use on some problems, but still have a lot of work done manually. Do you start to allow more calculator use than they prefer in these years? Some of the lessons are so long and arduous..... Should I stay strong and stay the course as written, or allow some more calculator use? Quote
Momto6inIN Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I allow calculators when long division and multiplication in columns is no longer difficult and labor intensive and strewn with errors, regardless of when the book says to allow it. 1 Quote
Trilliumlady Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 Momto6inIN, I like your answer! She knows how to do it, but there are so many problems and it takes so long! 1 Quote
kristin0713 Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 In CLE 7, I barely allowed a calculator. Of course I did if it said to allow it. In CLE 8, I allowed it more but only because I was sure that she could do the math if she needed to. This was more for multi-step word problems and I wanted her to focus on figuring out how to solve the problem. Quote
Trilliumlady Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 Good to know. Maybe we’ll suffer through a couple more books to finish out 7 and then be a bit more lenient on 8. Quote
