MerryAtHope
My daughter received an invitation to join this honors society--anyone here familiar and have any thoughts on it?
RootAnn
Never heard of it but it looks legit. (Courtesy bump since you've had a lot of views but no replies yet.)
MerryAtHope
Thanks! I definitely think it’s legit...I guess I’m more wondering if the yearly fee is really worth it. It was easier to decide when she was invited tI Phi Theta Kappa-that had a transfer scholarship potential and was a one-time fee (and she did get a transfer scholarship, so it was definitely worth it!) This one does have scholarship potential too, but only for active members. I doubt she’ll get involved since she didn’t with PTK. Anyway...leaning towards no right now, just curious about it I guess!
Lanny
There are many of those kinds of associations and I believe from the ones that contacted my DD when she was in High School and now that she is finishing her 2nd year in University, that are legitimate, but probably for most students are not worth the money IMO, because if I havent heard of them or you havent heard of them before, it is possible that other people are also not familiar with them. When she was in High School, my DD was contacted by several programs I'd never heard of, but they had in common that they all cost money. I suggested we not spend money on those. When she was invited to join the National Honor Society, that was something I knew about and she joined. Recently (a month or so ago) her school sent out an invitation for an organization, which surprised me. I suggested to my DD that if and when she is invited to join Phi Beta Kappa she get her Credit Card out and join, because I have heard about that one all of my life. If you can verify that within the Educational community (College/School of Education) this organization is known and respected and considered a plus for those who are members, then consider spending your money. If not, save your money.
