I have searched the forums and I am not finding anything less than a few years old, so I thought I would create a new topic and see if anyone has any recent experience.  I am moving and I thought while I am packing up books I should catalogue them and then organize them once we move to our new place. I was trying to find an app that I could use and scan in the ISBN code and something my husband could also use on his phone and sync with the computer.  I'd love to hear experiences and recommendations.

Thanks!

I tried cataloging a couple of times, but realized that my home library always has books going in and out. The effort needed to create the initial database and then keep up with it (enter new books, delete removed books) outweighs the usefulness for me. Instead, I mostly just group and shelve by category.

We've been decluttering our young adult and homeschool sections now that my kids are young adults, and I am definitely glad we didn't have the added step of updating an electronic catalog to reflect the four hundred or so books that found new homes this year, lol.

I use Libib. I tried Goodreads once, but didn't like it. It was messing up my To Read section. Libib has been good and dies sync across devices. I use it to catalogue books so I don't buy second copies of books I already own!

I use book catalogue, but as has been mentioned in a prior post, you really need to keep up with books that come in and out. I only use it for books I own, not those that I get from the library.  I got it initially to keep me from buying used copies at the thrift store of books I already had.  Alas, I haven't been to the thrift store in many many months.

ETA: I generally hand entered the ISBN rather than scanning
