Ali in OR
My disabled dd has had toenail fungus for several years. She saw a podiatrist a few years ago when she was also losing a toenail and we agreed that the formal treatment options aren't good for her (laser treatment not covered by insurance, oral meds bad for her liver that already has to process antiseizure meds, etc). I had heard about tea tree oil but never tried it, and I remember the podiatrist saying you would have to keep it up daily. But I saw some tea tree oil at Trader Joe's and on a whim I put a bottle in dd's stocking. I tried it today on her for the first time. I was rather surprised to see an immediate change--and maybe rubbing any oil on her toenails would do this--I don't have much experience with this yet. But her big toe that is mostly white, the white stuff looked like it largely went away when rubbed with tea tree oil on a cotton ball. I'll be pretty happy for her if this has a significant effect, and frankly since I have to do all her daily care anyway, it's not the big a deal to swipe some tea tree oil on her toenails before putting her socks, orthotics, and shoes on. I'm just curious if anyone who has used tea tree oil for this purpose can tell me how this works for them. Thanks.
teachermom2834
Not for toenail fungus but for fungus on the foot and on the hands/trunk. I suffered for a long time with some kind of resistant fungus on my hands/arms/torso. Saw multiple doctors and tried oral and topical medicines. It was awful. Nothing worked. I eventually tried tea tree oil and that solved my problem. Years later I solved a fungal issue on my foot with it. I am generally not one to jump to natural remedies. If heavy duty medications don't work, I don't generally think something from the health food section is going to. So, I am a skeptic. But it really worked. I don't remember all the details about how I used it. I think I didn't dilute it as much as what is recommended. It stung but was manageable.
gardenmom5
It was helping dh - but he wasn't as consistent as he needed to be. when he was soaking EVERY DAY in a bucket with tea tree salt, it was clearing up. big toe was the last to see improvement. smaller toes had all but grown out. eta: it was for about 30 minutes a day. and this one is available on Subscribe and save on amazon. popmom
My dad cleared his up by soaking his foot everyday in apple cider vinegar. I'm not sure if he diluted it. It took a long time, but it worked. He had to let the diseased nail grow and trim until there was only healthy nail left. The vinegar kept the healthy nail healthy. I'm not sure if that makes sense.

I have to balance the soaking tub on the wheelchair footrest and have a towel underneath because she likes to bounce and rock the chair. The tea tree oil was so easy--it would be nice if it works.
katilac
Tea tree oil works for many things, because it's so stinky that fungi and lice and germs run away from it 😁 1

Oh yeah, the oil would def be easier. I bet it will. If you try it, keep us updated. 4 hours ago, katilac said: Tea tree oil works for many things, because it's so stinky that fungi and lice and germs run away from it 😁 I actually kind of like the way it smells lol. But I'm a weirdo, so there's that. 1
LJPPKGFGSC
Tea tree oil worked for my yucky toenail. I dribbled one small drop onto my nail every time I got out of the shower. I didn't notice any change for a few weeks, but kept at it. It took a long time, maybe months, before it was completely better. But it was a very easy thing to do once it became a habit. Good luck!
