He thought he would be clever and put naan on TOP of the toaster to try to warm it without toasting it, but he didn't check to make sure the cord was not inside the toaster.  Honestly, I'm not sure how he managed to do this, but the cord caught on fire and exploded.  RIP toaster.

I burnt our toaster by trying to heat toast on top of it even without the cord inside.  It was a bit scary - glad for the fire blanket in the kitchen.

Yeah, to be honest, if it had been me, I'd have been tempted to have done what my husband's boss did when their kitchen caught on fire:  calmly poured a glass of wine and pretended not to notice for awhile before calling the fire department.

It could definitely use some revamping.

1. Our new toaster actually has a warming rack above it. When we got it, I spent ten minutes grabbing my family and making them watch me prop up the rack and then put it down again.

2. How can your cord be inside the toaster?

Toasters terrify me. Literally. When closing shop in the kitchen for the night, I always make sure to unplug the hot water pot and the toaster. My kids will tell stories about me after I’m gone, and laugh together about how many times I told them to always unplug their toasters.

With me it's space heaters and irons. I never, ever let the kids leave the iron plugged in. EVER.

I unplug to toaster, too. I could see one of my cats fiddling with the lever and toasting us all.

I once drove 15 minutes home because I thought I’d left the coffee pot on.  I hadn’t.  Also I’ve had something fall on the electric kettle switch and hold it in the on position with no water in it.  That definitely scared me.

I don’t remember the exact year, but my youngest was about 4, give or take a year, and allowed to use the toaster... with supervision. He decided to use it without supervision.
We’ve always had a 4-slice toaster despite our limited counter space, so sometimes things got left on top of it, to be removed during use. Ds apparently figured he was fine if something was on top of the half he wasn’t using. That something was a bag of brown sugar.

We had real flames.

(That child has gone on to use just about every appliance and knife he’s ever learned to use without getting permission/supervision first. The overall lesson was never learned, but he hasn’t started another fire.)

Rip toaster!

We always unplug our toaster, too, though I'm not sure why we started that habit. I moved the toaster a few weeks ago & it is now under our paper towel dispenser. DH has pointed out what a bad idea that is.

Appliances are scary.

We leave lamps, computers/printers, microwave, and TV plugged in. That is it. Oh, and two nightlights. One has a cool bulb and is not left on. The other is one of those light sensitive ones that costs pennies per year and does not get warm either.
