TravelingChris Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Please help me boarding! I ordered insulated overalls for dh for Xmas since an unheated garage is his woodworking shop. It came in a perfumed thank you package. Wtf??,, I am asthmatic and also get migraines from most perfumes including this one. I already got one from it opening tge package and then just taking the overalls back 8n the house because it will be raining soon. What can I do?? How do I get rid of smell? TIA Quote
mommyoffive Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Ugh. Why would a company you ordered them from send them that way? I get headaches for perfume too. Can you wash them? Hang them to air out in the garage? Quote
Katy Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 To me preventing another migraine would be worth spoiling the surprise. Tell DH where they are, to try them on to make sure they fit, then to please cut off the tags and launder them. Have him use white vinegar in the fabric dispenser. If the smell is bad to him too have him dump a few cups into the wash drum too. You can dry & wrap them after he washes them. Alternatively you could leave them somewhere else, and wrap a card that says what they are & why you didn’t bring them in to wrap. 1 Quote
TravelingChris Posted December 23, 2020 Author Posted December 23, 2020 I left them in the garage. I think I am just going to tell him. I put them in our garage for now. I actually don't know if he will get a migraine or asthma issues too. He has had very rare migraines, more as a kid and teen. He also had mild asthma but I don't know if one if his triggers is perfume. I know some of his asthma triggers are cold, illness, pollen and smoke. But nowhere as bad as my asthma. Quote
mommyoffive Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Can you do a little scavenger hunt to the garage as a surprise? Make a little fun out of the situation? 1 Quote

Is your concern that washing them is more handling than you can handle, or that bringing them into the house to wash them would contaminate the house? As a neighbor, if you called me and said "hey I have these overalls, they're on the front porch and I'm allergic", I'd be happy to go grab them, wash them, and deliver them back. I wouldn't see that as any more of an ask than hiding a new bike in the garage, something my neighbor did for me last year. 2 Quote
