We are in northeastern PA. I’d say we got about 14 inches. This is our first winter without any kids in the house. Two weeks ago dh ordered a snowblower. It arrived the day before the storm. He got the driveway done in under 20 minutes. It would have taken us hours and a couple shifts with shovels! We never wanted a snowblower due to the noise and laziness of it when we were younger. But we’re old enough now, I feel we don’t need to feel guilty. Lol.

Oh, wow.  What timing.  That is so great that he bought that right then.  We will totally get a snowblower when our kids leave.  We have had two over the years and never used them.  I want the kids to be out there working.  Until we move to a bigger property or they leave, they shovel.  Oh it must be so pretty.

I'm in Northern NJ and we got about a foot.   We don't shovel since our driveway and walkway are gravel.    When we need to go out we'll just drive right over it.  We have two 4WD vehicles.   I don't think we're going to go anywhere until tomorrow anyway.  We'll go out later and clean off the cars.

We were supposed to get a foot, but so far it's only about 8 inches.  Still coming down, but looking like it's near the end.

We didn't lose power. And we *always* lose power. So that was #1 in my gratitude journal, and numbers #2 and #3 and #4 were all ancillary to that (hot coffee!  can work out on the elliptical and then take a shower!  wifi!)

It looks *beautiful.* Last winter we had hardly any snow at all.

My DH teaches meteorology as an adjunct at a local community college. He loves weather and he double loves snow.  For the past couple of years, each storm has been a total dud and he’s been so disappointed.

This storm was supposed to give us about 18 inches of snow, but we got less than that.  Halfway through, it changed from snow to sleet for a number of hours, and then went back to snow.  If it hadn’t turned to sleet, we’d have probably had the full amount.  But DH was still satisfied with what we got and is happily out there shoveling it now.  Happy Hubby.

We have a snowblower, but I think he’s enjoying the shoveling. DS15 is out there shoveling, too, and he also enjoys the shoveling.

ETA: Just popped out to mail a letter and took a ruler with me: 7 inches of snow.

No kidding.  I am always so thankful for power during cold weather.  And hot water.  I never take it for granted.

I gave a confused face because wow, I don't think I would enjoy that.  LOL

I understand! And I agree! That’s why I’m in here playing on social media and they’re out there shoveling!  I’ve been waiting years for the boys to be old/big/strong enough to get me off snow duty.  🙂

12 inches here and it's still coming down.  I'm guessing we will make it to 13 or 14.

The church usually sends the plow guy over to plow us (at the parsonage), but since the church isn't in person, guess who isn't getting plowed?  So this is our first real have to shovel ourself out snow event in 12 years.  The kids were appalled! Dh and I are like--yeah, you have school and would rather not, but this is real life. They pulled themselves together.

eta: Totally thankful we didn't lose power.  Our 8 days without power during a pandemic was bad enough in August!

Midcoast Maine. It didn’t really start snowing here until after I got up around 6:30/7. I just went out and shoveled a path for the mailman and now we have around 8 inches so far.

In another month this won’t be anything notable but the first real snow of the season is always exciting. 🙂

I share with other posters my gratitude for heat, hot water and WiFi.

For real. Those eight days just about did me in. Ordinarily when we lose power we just call around till we find someone who still has it, and go over to take showers / recharge all the gizmos / have a meal or two/ put coffee into the thermos for the following morning.  It's a routine, that everyone in the area has down.

But because COVID we couldn't go into anyone's house for any of that. (Also, just about everyone in town was out for at least 5 days, so even getting water was a hassle.)

We only got a tiny, tiny dusting of snow.  Everywhere around the Roanoke valley got snow, but not us.  We were a hole in the snow.  It was somewhat disappointing.

That said, losing power in a pandemic would be beyond a nightmare, so I am thankful nothing to risk that occurred.  So much sympathy for those of you who lost power this summer.  I cannot imagine.  We lost power for 2 weeks after a derecho maybe 10 years ago, in July, when it was over 100 degrees.  It was so horrible.  I wound up taking the kids to my mom's in Georgia, and my relationship with my mom is.....stressful, but I was willing to cope with that for air conditioning.

We live in Florida but DH was supposed to fly a plane to Pennsylvania yesterday, but his flight (and the flight out this morning) got canceled so we got to spend an unexpected night with him at home. When I took him to the airport this morning it was in the low 30's (with a feels like of low 20's). We're thin blooded to to us it was really cold!

I love seeing the photos, but I don't miss snow. We spent 3 years living in Alaska so I've spent some time shoveling, LOL! Stay warm and safe!

Exactly!  And ds was trying to get his newspaper staff/advisor together in the week before college started and was stressed. We would camp out on the outside porch of friends to get things done. This week he has finals (and none of us have a cell plan which can port to wifi.)  I can't see us sitting in the snow outside friend's houses in 20 degree weather.  So, so, so thankful.

I’m almost finished with the driveway. Looks like we have around 18 inches and it’s still snowing, though lighter. I think I’ll make the men in the house shovel the plow line. 🙂

Views from my front porch - maybe 4-5 inches in central VT? (and yes that green house goes ALL out for decorations! It's even more impressive when it's dark out!)
