I started a new job just over a year ago, in an industry that is adjacent to my training, but totally different in a lot of key areas.  Learning how to do my job and do it well has been extremely stressful and I have spent the majority of the year feeling like I had no idea what I was doing, was on the verge of getting fired, and feeling really discouraged. There have been multiple times where after a meeting or phone call, I shut my office door and just cried. 
 

So this morning, my 50-person department had an end-of-year meeting to wrap up the year, discuss the new year etc. At the end of the meeting, the department VP said he wanted to recognize the top 3 employees in a certain key metric that is really important to the company and give them a $100 Visa gift card for their contribution. I was one of them! 
 

It was so rewarding to have some validation that I’m on the right track and apparently doing better that I thought I was. I’m so surprised, happy, and grateful!

What a great story! I'm so glad you've been recognized and appreciated for the good work you do.

And kudos to you for sticking with it through the stress and overwhelm of the learning curve. This is very heartening to hear and I'm so happy for you!!!

Yes, congrats!  The last sentence - I was going to say that it sounds like you were too hard on yourself and your perception was different than that of your boss!  Way to go!

Yes! My first instinct as to get something for my kids, but then I decided I’m just going to hang onto it until I figure out something I really want that I totally wouldn’t get otherwise.
