Last year - the puppy thought the tree skirt was a potty pad . .. . . After we took it down, dh took it to the local cleaner's. . .. I then took it to a cleaner's with whom I had more confidence, pointed out the spots - and it came back clean.  This was well into January, and I put it away safely. . . . . I can't find it.

The starburst I purchased a few years ago for the snowflake tree is also missing.  I found the box it goes in - and I admit I didn't put it back in that box. . . . .

I've looked in every christmas decor box I have.  (including the four apple boxes for the heirloom/european glass/school craft day tree) . . .. .

I've looked in my cedar chest, my closet (in case I hung the skirt up in it), the linen closet, every one of my decor boxes in the garage - and upended several which had very little in them.. . . . .

I figure I'll find them when Christmas is over.

I hate when I clean and put things away. Can't find anything, lol.

This was so me until I started following Dana White’s advice from Declutter at the Speed of Life.  She said to stop putting things where you think they should go and start putting them in the first place you would look for them. Now I can find things 80% of the time. The rest of the time someone else in the family “helped” when I was cleaning. 😂

I have two Christmas cookie jars, a penguin and a gnome. When we pulled them out, the top of the gnome was nowhere to be found. I looked everywhere. Then I jokingly said, "Maybe the penguin ate the gnome," pulled off the top of the penguin and ta-da--the gnome top was indeed inside the penguin, wrapped carefully in paper towels to protect against breakage. So, maybe your tree skirt and star are inside something else?

I found them!  by pure chance.   They were on a shelf in the garage where I've had spike spiders. (and previously a piece of luggage.)  completely different part of the garage.  They were in a clear plastic crate - or I never would have looked twice.  completely different area than all my christmas decor boxes. . . .

they're NOT going back on that shelf!

Yay!!!!  What a great feeling when you find something that was lost.

Did you open the door to the attic where the Christmas stuff is and just shove it to the side in a Walmart bag?

Glad you found them!
According to Clutterbug theory, I am a cricket, which accurately means that I don’t like to see ANYTHING. I want everything in my house to be behind a door, drawer, or in a solid bin or basket. Except, when it comes to long-term storage, clear bins are my everything. I need to know what’s in a storage bin without having to open it, look for a contents list, or count on it being in the spot I expect it to be.  Clear bins are lifesavers!

One smart but stupid thing that I do around Christmas - I always have a new 18 month planner by then. When I find a holiday item that missed the boat, I write its improvised location in my planner for next year.  And then, almost without fail, I switch planners in the fall and forget to transfer that note to the new one, so I still have to search everywhere. Sigh.
