Laura Corin Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 My small, fluffy dog is 14. We switch off the house heating at night and she has never liked being covered with a blanket. She doesn't seem shaky or uncomfortable when I see her in the morning - she's just snuggled in her fleecy bed. The house is cool when I wake up but not shivery. Any experience with microwave pads? Does the heat last eight hours? I'm thinking of this one to tuck into the corner of her bed https://www.petplanet.co.uk/p20912/petlife_hotties_heat_pad_for_cats_and_dogs.aspx Quote
bibiche Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I use a Hugo Frosch hard Öko Classic 2L hot water bottle that I fill with nearly boiling water (much hotter than is recommended, but it has lasted for years). It stays quite warm overnight in our rather shivery house as long as it is well-insulated. I tuck it under our skinny old pup’s sheepskin rug/bed. If he gets too hot he can move away from the heat source, which is why I prefer this method to a heated pad. NB The softer, smaller Frosch bottle does not retain its heat as well. 2 Quote
KungFuPanda Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 A friend got a heated bed for her cat and he LOVES it. I didn’t even know they existed! 1 Quote
ktgrok Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 We used these sometimes at the vet clinic - they worked pretty well https://www.amazon.com/Snuggle-Safe-Pet-Microwave-Heating/dp/B00008AJH9 1 Quote
