purpleowl Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 We've made it to the final month of 2020! Happy Tuesday! This is a place for those who'd like encouragement and accountability in doing intentional daily movement. Anyone may join in at any time! (Also, I use too many exclamation points, but I'm not actually as chipper in the mornings as they make me seem. 😄) 1 Quote
purpleowl Posted December 1, 2020 Author Posted December 1, 2020 I walked 3 miles in the COLD. It's 32 feels like 26 here, which I know is barely chilly to some people but for this girl who's always lived in Georgia or Florida, it's COLD. So I'm very proud of myself for getting that walk done. (And tomorrow morning the actual temp is supposed to be 28...eep!) (Translation for our Celsius-using friends: current temp is 0 feels like -3.3. Tomorrow morning actual temp will be -2.2.) I actually have this weird thing where I break out in hives if I'm cold for too long, so I was really expecting that to happen this morning. But I guess since I was moving quickly, I kept my body warmed up enough to avoid that result. That was a pleasant surprise, as I'd thought I would be dragging my itchy self back to the house after maybe 15 minutes. Oh, and I did arm work, too. 😊 3 Quote
Jenny in Florida Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Living in Florida, I always feel silly talking about cold, but it was distinctly chilly for us this morning, especially since I head out for my walks by about 6:00am when it's still dark. My closet is not stocked with the right clothes for going outside even in this relative chill. But it felt kind of nice. Today is the first official day for me to participate in the Run Across America Holiday Hustle, with the goal of walking 50K by the end of December. I'm counting only "intentional" outdoor walking, not incidental wandering around the house or taking the dog outside kind of stuff, and my personal goal is to walk at least 3K each day using the RAC tracker app. The over-all challenge includes a few mini-challenges, so on the days those are available, I'll count those as my walk for that day. This morning I kicked it off with 3.2K (1.9 miles). I had time for only 25 minutes on the stationary bike before I had to get ready for work, so I will do another 20-ish minutes on a break or probably after PT this evening. 3 Quote
Ottakee Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 I did a 20 minute DDPY workout and then 30 minutes in the treadmill....the incline walking at 7% grade. Well, 25 minutes was forward walking and 5 minutes much slower backwards as the PT says it will help my knee. 4 Quote
historically accurate Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 I started my morning by getting on the exercise bike. 20 minutes because the cat decided it was time to get off and feed her. She can be a nuisance. 4 Quote

One of mine likes to sit on the edge of the dining table closest to my bike and meow, refusing to accept that I cannot actually reach him to pet him while I'm pedaling. 2 1 Quote
Lady Florida. Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 It was Florida-cold today. I walked 2-1/4 miles in 55 degrees F but with the wind it felt colder. The humidity was low and I'm not used to that. It's harder to breathe when the air is dry, and we're not used to dry air here. I was going to do an indoor workout but couldn't resist walking outdoors. The high will be back up to 80 by the end of the week. We Floridians have to take advantage of our brief cold snaps when we can. 😄 4 Quote
Pawz4me Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 It was brisk here today, too. I don't know what the wind chill was when we did our walk, but it was definitely a thing to be noticed. It always puzzles me that the wind can be in my face on the walk out, and also be in my face when we turn around and head back. How does that happen??? 4 Quote
Jenny in Florida Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Done. It looked briefly as though PT was going to be off for today (insurance thing), but they worked it out in time for my appointment. I then came back home, did another hour or so of work, made a simple dinner for my husband, walked for 20 minutes with our friend Leslie to top off my step count and bikes for 20 minutes while watching a cooking video. (Seems counter-productive, maybe?) 3 Quote
sbgrace Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I did a Leslie Sansone boosted walk and some strength training just after lunch. I got my pilates done by 9:00. Lately I've been putting things off and shifting my exercise late. I feel good about getting done earlier today. I'm impressed with all of you walking in the cold! I intended to walk yesterday and the cold (plus wind) changed my mind. 2 Quote
Junie Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 60 minutes on the exercise bike. Now I'm eating garlic toast. :) (In my defense, I have a headache brewing and can't take meds on an empty stomach.) 1 Quote
