Chris in VA
Can I peel and slice my potatoes tonight ahead of making baked sweet potato casserole and mashed (white) potatoes? Like, soak in a bowl overnght so I have less to do tomorrow? I need to make bread dressing/stuffing, and I'm nervous about the turkey, and I made the crust and the filling of the apple pie but will bake it in the morning. This is the first time so much has to be homemade!
lmrich
I have had success peeling and slicing my potatoes ahead of time (for roasting) - make sure you change the water a few times before you tuck them away. The water should be clear, not cloudy. Good luck!
Storygirl
I think yes, but I've never tried it. I made my mashed potatoes a day or two ago, and I'm making my mashed sweet potatoes today. I will just reheat them in the oven tomorrow. Just another idea for you.
Katy
Sweet potatoes shouldn’t need to be soaked, but white potatoes do.
alisoncooks
I always peel my potatoes ahead of time. Make sure they're covered with water, then drain before using in the morning. 🙂 ETA: I'm doing my mashed potatoes in the slow cooker but they go earlier than I want to be peeling! I'm cooking my turkey right now. I figure it'll reheat fine and I'd rather have my casseroles piping hot/fresh than turkey. Plus, we carve it completely before serving so we're not going for the wow factor. Edited November 25, 2020 by alisoncooks
