klmama Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Is it possible to be contagious and test negative at the same time? If someone tested negative, but then just one day later developed Covid symptoms (and after a few more days tested positive), how long before developing symptoms would they likely have been contagious? What about that negative test result? Bonus points if you have a reputable source for the answer! Quote

I think that even on the day that there are FEWEST false negatives, there are 25% negatives, so it's really not unlikely. As for how long they would have been contagious, I think it would have varied quite a lot depending on the person. Some people don't spread it much and some are asymptomatic superspreaders. It's really hard to know. I can give you sources if you need, but I'm pretty reliable myself 😉 . 2 Quote

I would appreciate some reputable resources to share with someone who needs the info, if you can point me in the right direction. 1 Quote

Here's the article I was thinking about: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7240870/ However, it's rather old, so I should search for some newer ones. ETA: never mind, everyone seems to be citing that one, lol. Would that do or would you like something more readable? Edited November 25, 2020 by Not_a_Number Quote
klmama Posted November 25, 2020 Author Posted November 25, 2020 More readable, if you know of something. Thanks! Quote
Liz CA Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Yes, CV19 infections and CV19 cases are different. Not always an immediate positive after infection. Quote
