ddcrook Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 We just bought a toaster oven/ air fryer and my first attempt at making sweet potato chips has failed. The chips turned out limp and soft except in the places that they are burned. They were cut very thin, and I'm sure that I set the oven correctly. My husband wondered if the fan was not working because we couldn't hear it. We think we need to take it back but I'd like to make sure we're using it right first. Any insights? Quote
MEmama Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 Our Airfryer is quite loud, which makes me think your DH might be right. I haven’t used a toaster oven/Air fryer combo though. Did you by chance try to make too many at once? I know if I overfill, veggies will steam more than crisp. For fries/chips especially it is important to keep enough air moving between items. 1 Quote
wintermom Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 (edited) I agree with the PP - our air fryer is very loud. You can definitely hear the fan. I also pause the fryer and move the chips around every 5 min. You can spray the fries with water, too, if you find they are getting burnt. My ds discovered this trick as he does this with the BBQ. KungFuPanda Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 Any chance there's a button to turn the convection feature on and off? Quote
