1 1/2 mile power walk with weights completed!

@ktgrok...Congratulations!  That is an amazing accomplishment.   How have you managed it?  After 4 days in a row I desperately need a day off.  I would love to be able to go 6 days in a row and just take 1 day off,  but get grumpy and need a day off before then.   I wish I could embrace and love working out but it hasn't happened yet.  Though I always feel better when I am done and am grateful that I did it.

The key is on those days I want a day off, to do something easier/shorter. So, if you normally do an hour workout, do 20 minutes. If you normally push yourself, do an easy day where you move, but are not pushing hard. That way you keep moving every day (because I've finally realized that moving isn't optional anymore than eating or brushing my teeth is) but not wearing yourself out.

Some days I do just a mile mile walk and a short easy warm up type yoga workout that's less than 15 minutes. But most days I do the 1 mile walk (usually the 15 minute video) and 25-35 minutes of yoga.

But I mean, I can't actually say i'm ever too tired to do 15 minutes of exercise, you know? (oh, and often do those two things at different times of the day...so it's just 15 minutes then go do other stuff, then later do 20-40 minutes)

An example of a recovery workout that was nice -

I multi tasked and did 40 minutes on the treadmill at 6° incline while talking to a student on the phone and walking him step by step through how to get to our online learning (that we have practiced the entire year....but my students have special needs).

Then I did a mile outside in the cold wind.  Followed by 25 minutes of DDPY.

We are back from camping. Weather was good, 65/45, except wind was awful one day and night. I hate wind, it jacks up my nerves (I mean actual nerves, not just mentally). Fortunately, it was still the majority of the time. We hiked each day.

This was car camping, so I brought an air mattress; I might not be able to move otherwise. Lol At first the air mattress was to make dh more comfortable (he's not a camper and does it only because we do) but it really makes a difference for me too. I'm paring down the car camping gear, but will keep the air mattress. 😁

I haven't been posting but I've been getting my walks or workouts in. We had some rainy evenings so I had to do indoor work. Some days that was a full workout or walk at home video and some days it was just static stretching or yoga. When it finally cleared up I wasn't able to get out so I continued working inside.

Last night was beautiful so dh and I went for a 1.3 mile walk. He's working tonight and the weather is even better. As @ktgrokwe had a cold front come through. It was absolutely perfect for a walk (by myself) tonight.

I know we only have a few days of our 20 days left but I really want to thank you for this. As you said at the beginning, the well trained bodies threads can get intimidating. I've enjoyed these threads where others are at a similar exercise place as me and we're trying to keep each other accountable. Thank you @Slache!

@ktgrok...Thank you!  I never thought about it that way but it makes so much sense.  I am very much an "all or nothing" person (I am working on changing that mindset) which is why I am positive this never occurred to me.  Thank you for the video too.

Oh, I totally get it! I have a long history of letting perfect be the enemy of the good! I think reading The Screwtape Letters oddly enough is what opened my eyes to how my supposed good intentions were getting in my way of actual progress. Like, saying well, I can't start walking because 3 months from now it will likely be to hot to walk outside at my prefered time, so why bother to start now?  I really have to tell myself, sometimes even out loud, that I don't have to worry about 3 months from now today!  Just do what works today. And if what works for you today is a 15 minute walk video, or a 20 minute recovery workout, that's fine!

So now, I have no "off" days, but I do have "active recovery" days. And not only does that make it more of a habit, but it also means I get less sore/stiff, because on those easier days I'm still getting blood flow moving, to nourish my muscles.

I did get in two walks around the block with the dog which is around a mile. But I admit this is getting hard to keep fitting in. Don't want to walk in downpours, keep finding myself involved in after school meetings, and now my stress and responsibility load is higher as I need to fill in and sub for my teacher who has a family emergency right now. I will do the three more days, I will try to trade after school snacking for after school exercise more often, but I'm ready for it not to be a hard and fast thing I must get done every single day. Some days are just hard.

Can you relax the "rules" around what you do rather the the "rule" of doing it? In otherwords, is there a way to keep the idea of "moving every day" but make how you do that easier to accomplish? Just thinking that with all your extra stress your body would appreciate some good short exercise even if it isn't "outside walking".

For me, that's why I do the 15 minute Leslie Sansone videos - I can't seriously come up with an excuse that I don't ahve time/energy for 15 minutes, you know? Not that it has to be that, but even a commitment to spend 15 minutes a day doing something - be it walking, stretching, dancing, etc? Not trying to bully you, you know better than me your actual life right now, just brainstorming.

I do start my day with a serious workout every day except Sunday. I like the idea of this challenge to recover from a day Zooming at my desk for 6.5 hours. I think there are some great mental health aspects to getting out for a walk rather than more inside exercise--it's just been hard this week. But I want to finish off the whole 20 days!

Okay, when I re-read The Screwtape Letters I am going to have to remember this.     This is all so well stated and is exactly what I do.    The way you are handling really speaks to me and will help me re-frame my thinking.  I appreciate it very much.

I am not sure if there is a thread up for today (the 18th) or not.  I will post here  and will post on the new thread when either it goes up or I find it.  I power walked with weights 1 1/2 miles.  That makes a total of 18 miles so far.  Yay me!

OH! LOL, yeah, if you are getting in workouts forget what I said, lol. I didn't realize the walk was in addition to other movement. My bad!

Aw, thanks! I give the credit to C.S. Lewis.

Started the (cool, clear, slightly breezy) day with 1.5 miles of wandering the neighborhood with the dog, then inside for about 35 minutes of video-led cardio. Haven't yet gotten to my 30 minutes of stationary biking for today -- work has continued to be very busy this week, keeping me really stuck to my desk chair during business hours -- but I still managed to meet my step goal for today about half an hour ago.

I don't see a Day 19 thread so I'll post here like you all have been doing. Hoping all is well with @Slache and she just got busy.

I did my usual 1 mile route. It was downright chilly after sundown - by Florida standards. 70 degrees F, very windy, humidity below 60. I wore a sweatshirt. Yes, I did. 😄

I put a sweatshirt on my DD in the stroller! Chilly in that wind!
