R828 Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Do y’all have any recommendations for a microscope that is user friendly for early elementary kids but good enough to work for us at least until high school? I’d like one that would let you examine opaque objects too. And preferably under $150. Thank you! Quote
Wheres Toto Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 I teach science classes to groups and these are the ones I use most of the time. I needed decent enough to look at a wide variety of stuff but not outrageously expensive since I needed 5 or 6 of them. The Celestron with the top and bottom lights is probably the most versatile but they all work very well. We have NOT looked at too many things with the highest power objectives, since that often requires oil immersion. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005O0XVTS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AM5XB5O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K6PRH00/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 1 Quote
Familia Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Brock magiscope! I still use ours at least weekly. We are rather careful with our things, but I didn’t think anything of leaving this on one of our kitchen counters (where it still lives) when gads of the children’s friends were around all the time years ago. Easy to change eye pieces/lens when needed, but we prefer the lowest (40?) for everyday use. 3 Quote
Spryte Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 We love our Brock, too. It’s practically indestructible. One of our best homeschool investments! 1 Quote
Farrar Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Another vote for the Brock. It's really the only one I would ever recommend before high school. 1 Quote
R828 Posted November 15, 2020 Author Posted November 15, 2020 (edited) Thank you DorothyNJ. I’ll look at those. Familia, Spryte and Farrar, Thank you so much! I had never heard of Brock before and they look fascinating. I’m seriously considering it. Edited November 15, 2020 by R828 Quote
