The whole household (well, most of it) is feeling more vegetarian leaning, but not wanting to give up all meat like foods totally. A LONG time ago I was a vegetarian for about a decade, including vegan for a few years, but it's been a while, lol, and with a kid with celiac we try to keep the house gluten free, complicating things.

I tried to peak at some options today at the store, but had a 3 yr old with me, we are in masks, people are crowding us, the freezer doors were all fogged up...it wasn't happening, lol. I do have a Whole Foods, Walmart, Publix, etc to shop at, as well as Aldi. Trader Joes is more of a pain but doable now and then...maybe. If positivity gets higher I'll be sticking to pick up and delivery (which the other ones have).

Any family favorites? I used to love fake chick'n patties, sausage patties, etc but have no idea what is and isn't gluten free.

We do know about just skipping the meat, having more beans, nuts, etc. But sometimes you want something familiar.

Dr. Praegers makes some gluten free vegetarian "fingers".

Hillary's Eat Well also has some veggie burgers that are gluten free.

Some companies have both gluten free and gluten containing products so you really do need to look at labels.

(I get some gluten free chicken fingers too but those are really chicken so don't fit your vegetarian criteria.)

We did a huge family taste test last year... Don Lee’s Chipotle Black Bean burger was our favorite hamburger replacement. Our Costco carries them.

Morning Star’s veggie breakfast sausage patty

Beyond Meat products are decent too.

I don’t know if they still carry it bc I don’t live near a Trader Joe’s anymore, but they have a soy chorizo that is delicious! It was vegan and I *think* it was gluten free as well.

The Morning Star veggie sausage patties contain wheat gluten (I just checked ingredients online)

Yeah. Those I did check today - they are mostly gluten. Delicious though!

I have been a vegetarian since I was 14 and gluten free since I was 27.  I ate a ton of fake meat for about 10 years, mostly Morningstar Farms and Loma Linda...lots of soy isolate protein.  After I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's, I avoided most fake meat like the plague due to the processed soy.  I do like the brand Quorn for "chicken" chunks  and "turkey" rolls; I don't know if this brand would work for you because they do have a few breaded items that may be processed in the same facility as the non-breaded items.  There are two brands that have really tasty, whole food, vegetarian, gluten free burgers, but due to the price, I buy them infrequently and can't remember the names; I find them at Whole Foods and some Publix in the freezer section.  For jerky I do Pan's mushroom jerky, which I get from Thrive Market.

I don’t cook this way, but this young woman has some kitchen skills and I watched her do a week of gf/vegan dinners for $25. I was entertained. 😀

Agreeing with others that Gardein & Beyond are probably your best bet for premade meat substitutes. Impossible Burgers are gluten free now, too. (FWIW, the Beyond Burger won Good Mythical Morning's taste test.)

For DIY, Bob's Red Mill sells bags of textured veggie protein, which is soy based. I've also seen lots of recipes online that use shredded canned jackfruit in dishes that would normally use shredded chicken, pork, or beef (e.g. cooked with lots of BBQ sauce, enchilada sauce, etc.).
